The reliability of a dual band wifi providing ow latency connection to multiple devices at home can never be compared to the mobile hotspot.
Fiber broadband is far more reliable and speed matters when you are consuming bandwidth application like streaming and downloading otherwise in normal video calls even the 10mbps speed is enough for 3-4 people for communication , surfing and other productivity tasks not everyone use internet just to binge watch stuff.

If this happen everyone will downgrade

Unlikely, some categories that I can think of who wouldn't

1. WFH folks who are getting reimbursed.

2. Families (10mbps is just not enough imo)

3. Businesses

and other categories, if any.

Only people who might downgrade would be single bachelors (not working) or professionals whose work doesn't demand an uninterrupted internet connection (mostly 9-5 office goers) who can make it work with mobile data but sometimes need fiber broadband during leisure times. But that's my opinion and it could be wrong.

  • This will help Jio capture low paying BB market share (from BSNL)
  • People doing WFH will opt for backup connection .
  • If JioFiber uptime looks promising to them, they will gradually opt Jiofiber as their primary internet connection.
  • Revenue will increase drastically for Jio.

Before going for Airtel, I visited BSNL to get a connection but they even don't took it seriously. After many visit they said that they don't give connection on my location. They never want to work.

BSNL deserve to be fully closed! Their sarkari employee totally responsible for this poor condition of the company.

Note that the backup plan is available for a minimum of five months. To get it, you will have to pay Rs 1490 (Rs 990 for five months and Rs 500 for installation). Even for the STB upgrade, you will have to pay Rs 500 or Rs 1000 altogether for five months, depending on the plan the user is choosing. Additional GST will be applicable on the bill.

@desiman

this is a long-term loss don't focus on short-term gains

wired internet is going to get cheap over time if the market share goes to jio prices will hike for no reason you will pay less now but later on, you will not have any choice

stick to what you have currently the difference is only of 50 - 100 rs

10 MBPS speed. might be useful for text messages. instead use Mobile hotspot.

installation charge of 500 applicable.
we should buy our own router. which will cost 1000 more.

it is useful only for those who do WFH once in a while and need strong wifi at home during that time.

for daily users waste of money

Existing jiofiber users can use it.... Or only for new customers

Already have installed+router and need specific time of 2hrs /week

10Mbps @ 298 = 198+100 (Installation) * 5 Months

And, 30Mbps @ 399. So, saving of Rs.100

gud if they offer this pack in prepaid .

From 30 to 10mbps...will it able to handle multiple devices at once or will start buffering.

10 mbps is too low.

But could be useful for those who stay in office whole day and mainly use on weekends as this offers 1 day/2 day speed upgrade options.

Can also be useful as a backup connection.

People complaining 10mbps but not seeing the price they are giving at. You can't expect 100mbps at such a cheap rate... ₹200 is nothing in today's world and you are paying it for the thing you will use the most.  Imo it's worth every penny.

Benevolent Benevolent

Its basically a marketing stunt. People will take connection based on price. Then they will get frustrated with the speed. Then Jio will push them to switch to higher plans.

10 mbps is good for basic computing but cannot support streaming/video calls etc. There are many who watch streaming services only on Saturday/Sunday. For them could be useful. This plan plus weekend (2 day) upgrades to 100 mbps would cost about 6K/yr as against 9.9K for normal 100 mbps plan. About 40% savings.
