You actually don’t need a lot for running code (not talking about Android Studio or Data Science and Machine Learning). An i3 + 8GB RAM and SSD (NVME) would be sufficient (and pretty fast too for daily use). Try to get something latest and you’ll get an okayish battery life too (7-11 hours).
But since you are open to spending 80K, I’d suggest you get the M1 Macbook (Goes for around 73K-78K). Here’s why -

  • If you want to get into android development, you need a better processor, and M1 is the best processor in right now period.
  • If you want to develop MacOS / iOS apps, You will need XCode, which will only work in Macbook and not on windows.
  • Macos is based on unix, so running C/C++/Java/Python code is much easier and intuitive as compared to windows (which is a nightmare), Linux is better than both of them here though.
  • Battery and screen of Macbooks are a class apart. Everyone knows that. Youtube and netflix will be awesome.
  • For Deep learning, you might need a GPU (M1 has a pretty good one), for Tesorflow and all, But at that point you’ll be better off using Google colab free tier.

Cons -

  • Repairs are painful and costly.
  • Can’t play games, (which is actually kinda important). You can use Geforce now to play on the cloud. I did that and its good. Or get a console (if you can find one

My suggestion will be if you have good money then don’t compromise on configuration. Nothing below i7 will make you feel good. Have atleast 8Gigs of RAM and 2GB GRX.

I did B.Tech in CSE. Was too good at coding. Financial problems lead to no upgraded system. Was hard to use Lab systems all the day as whenever logic striked had no good system at home to test it. Had a single core system during my engineering. I was against taking loan from friends so let my dream die. The ideas you see flourishing today were there in my mind way before or were even better than what we see today. Had a mega project in mind for Petroleum sector. Left enginerring in 7th sem and became a no one. Everyone compared me with Funsuk Wangadoo of 3 idiots when I entered college. But I ended up being nothing. Made IITians taste defeat in Delhi. Oh the good days of life.

Now atleast happy with what I do. smile We can dream big but reality gives a slap to face. Also destiny played its part when at very striking movement I lost my system and it became dead telling me your time is over. 10 times in life I ran out of luck. All hard work in vain. Now I just work without thinking of the outcome. Now I help students here who are confused with their future.

There is no special laptop designed for Computer Science Student. Choosing a perfect laptop solely depends on your budget, and what all things you want to use on the laptop.
