I just wanted to get rid of the pay later schemes of these apps and left lazypay a message on Twitter. A person from their social media team connected with me via whatsapp and ask for OTP for account closure. I shared the otp and there was a txn made for rs 1600 (my entire credit limit) on komparify. When I asked him about this, he said that the limit was removed from my account for permanent account closure hence this txn was made. Also the account closure will take 24 hrs to process.

I'm not sure if I've been duped or the person was really from lazypay team.

Any dimer has any past exp. Like this from lazypay?

Why people are still not understanding that no banking service will talk to you on whatsapp. Whatsapp is counted as informal communication and no good company will ever talk to you on whatsapp. They have channels on whatsapp only for notifications and feedbacks. Plus lazypay official whatsapp channel has green tick as well. You should thank lazypay for not giving you a good limit

Seems like you are scammed(100% sure). But I don't have experience with Lazypay. Let's confirm with others too. First thing you should have noticed is that +1 number and secondly when he asked otp for closure. No one closes accounts with OTP sweat_smile

Glad it's only 1600 and not 16000 or 60000.

in that case the twitter handle is fake

This was a scammer. Not someone from Lazypay. Whenever you message any bank or any financial company, scammers posing as that particular company will message you on Twitter and try to scam you.

what are my options now? Do I need to pay it back to lazypay or I can complain to them?

Since you shared the OTP Lazypay might not help you. Still you can try. And there was no need to close 1600 limit as it is not reported to CIBIL. Only if you apply for Lazycard it is reported to CIBIL. When you ask for help to any financial institution on Twitter, don’t mention your number on the tweet. Coz then scammers will message you. Only send your details in DM to verified Twitter handle.

The number one rule is never to share OTP with anyone unless the text message itself asks to share OTP to the agent. Even then you have to be 100% sure that you are dealing with someone legit.

Mistake is on your side so you have to pay and close this. Never ever share your OTP even if it's Nirmala Sitharanam asking.

what if I don't pay? I just want to envision the scenarios here. If it's not reported to cibil then what action can lazypay take?

What if they report to CIBIL after you are overdue? They can do this if they want to. Even though the probability is very low, what if it happens? That's a red flag you can't remove for lifetime. Or they can take legal action. Again the probability is very low.

They cannot report to CIBIL as this product is offered without any PAN or Aadhaar. As far as I know they have only Lazycard tied up with banks and report that. Also if you don’t pay they will contact you and people in your contact list for repayment.

The biggest fault of Lazypay is that all their OTP sms are same format
They do not mention anything about merchant or transaction amount in the sms.

Oh ok. As long as the PAN is not given then fine.

Flag 1 - why would lazypay support use a USA number

Flag 2 - why they need OTP
