My colleague ordered 3 milk packets and one fruit loops from swiggy Instamart from office for his son at home who is ill. While ordering Swiggy Instamart provided 100 off coupon that was bonus for her.

Now swiggy delivered expired milk dated 10th december and fruit loops. Here son told delivery agent and he said to raise a request with swiggy and left.

She immediately brought to the notice of Swiggy via chat and the agent is ready to refund 94 rs. as gratifying amount , after coupon discount, after all the inconvenience jargons they use. She did not agree and told the agent that  she is not beggar and asked the agent to either refund full 135 or take back all the products ( Her logic is , she again has to anyway order again with 135 right away and knows Swiggy don't have return policy though we identify the expiry during delivery) . Read gratify amount here.

The agent was so stubborn and did not agree. She said she does not need the coupon and ready to hand over all the products back and requested full refund. Now the agent was so arrogant and disconnected the chat.

She again connected to another agent and this agent understood the point and refunded full 135.

This raises so many questions

1. Since the items come under perishable good, swiggy being public limited company, should publish mfg and exp. date, isn't it?

2. Swiggy knows about expiry of goods and convincingly attached a coupon which is again to deceive customers.

3. Though she got full refund (for milk only), she again has to order with another app plus handling and delivery charges.

4. A working mother with his kids ill and with this boasted technology minute apps did not help her, yet swindling public money

With all this, who is right and what actions she can take against swiggy

Swiggy is not denying. They are saying we will refund money of the expired products - coupon discount % applicable on that product. While i bought fruit loops also at MRP and after this discount will be normal price available in D-mart, BB, amazon fresh, etc..

So basically they are selling expired products for 94 rs. which otherwise should be discarded. But when one buys in B&M they check first expiry date , so cannot call mistake of shop keeper as per article shared

@playdime your colleague should consider herself lucky. She got full refund. It depends on the customer service executive.

BTW Swiggy charges 100% cancellation charges  far restaurant orders.

I think the otherway round. She got trapped in this kind of scam.

..

An MRP product otherwise available for 30% discount is tagged with the stale product that ppl generally buy ( in this case milk plus fruit loops).

..

The suggestion is easy to recommend out of all possibilities and with a coupon ( again another trap to make one buy unnecessary product thinking anyway we use it, if not now we use next month attitude is targeted here) it looks lucrative.

...

Now milk cost 135+ fruit loops of a brand  product MRP 208 ( is available for 208- 30% when i checked) clubbed with hello75 off coupon.

...

2 days stale milk ( on 13th they delivered 10th milk) cannot be sold anywhere and swiggy dont have paneer or dairy to make curd or any dairy by product.

...

This deadly combination and if you connect the dots tells you who is lucky.

..

I analyzed this before posting.

..

The beauty of AI on customer to trap.

..

Think yourself and correct me if i am wrong.

These apps are now mis-selling and making it harder to first connect to a human executive and even if you get success in connecting with one, they don't entertain the genuine concerns of the users. One of the weirdest things is the dynamic pricing used. You can see one item is available at say rs 100 in the morning and then suddenly in the evening it turns out to be 90 or 105. This kind of playing with customers mind to indirectly force them to keep checking the prices and remain active on these apps is really dangerous for mental health. Just for a few bucks we are giving a lot of time to these apps which should be avoided to the extent possible and order items which are required and not based on offers.

True, but here its a genuine case of using app to meet the needs of his ill kid at home. Because she does not log & buy everyday the hello again coupon trap was hatched.
