LG split AC has been working fine bought before 8 years.

Problem is gas is leaking and they say coil needs to be changed to Copper and coolant needs to be refilled after repair and costs 10k approx

Is it worth 8k repair so it won't repeat or to exchange for new AC or any tricks to fix at low cost

Pls suggest.thanks

1. 8 years old ac= should be dumped for new cause it’ll consume a lot of electricity.

2. Investing 10k on this old doesnt make any sense and I think you know it too.

3. Trick? Yeah courier that ac to me, I’ll sell it in scrap and give you whatever is paid by the scrap.

Please stop wasting time on this and get a new one. No matter how much you invest, it’ll hurt you more in longer run. It’s time to get NEW ONE.

get a new one , no point of repairing at this cost  plus there is no guarantee it will work perfectly after repair

Use it for exchange or sell locally, should easily get 2-3k.

Even for coil change?

Coil can easily be repaired by welding with copper stick, if coil is getting change then 10,000 is the real cost, better to get a new ac.

If the AC has worked trouble free for 8 years it indicates that the quality of mechanical and electronic components used was very good and you live in a non corrosive environment. Newer models will not deliver this level of reliability and parts will fail more frequently with gas leakages.

If you are satisfied with the star rating and electricity consumption of the old AC, I would advise replacement of the coils with good quality ones, atleast once. However coil replacement is required only in case of leakages at multiple points, otherwise it can be repaired. Rate for coil replacement and gas filling appears to be high if only one coil evaporator or condenser is going to be replaced, for which it should cost around 7500. A new coil cost around Rs. 5000 alone for 1.5 tonne AC.

i have seen people using 10 years old till now and they DO NOT CONSUME MORE ELECTRICITY .
You need clamp ampere meter to check the load

I believe instead of spending 25k -30k in new ac
he can get this fixed in 8 to 10k max and it should work for more 2-3 years easily . If OP is from north then its much better .

Nowadays ac have modern features but build quality and component quality is real shit

My friend is using 15 years old AC in their home and it runs continously (without compressor tripping 😜) as its old model , and his room is like Shimla all the time

Can you please advise me on my situation?

My 7-year-old 1 Ton Lyod Ac compressor failed this month...the service person is asking 12K for compressor replacement and gas filling.

I postponed this to next year's summer season because the weather is pleasant right now. So I have 2 options :

1> Buy new ac during bbd sales.

2> Repair the current one.

PS- electricity cost in my city 4.75rs per unit & My indoor unit still looks very beautiful  and shiny 😻

Compressor warranty is almost 10 years

You should negotiate for compressor else you can go for a used compressor which will cost you almost half the price and if it runs for 2- 3 years ..paisa wasool 😁

I would say get a new AC as  your AC is already 8 years old means all spare parts get weaken due to obsolescence, so chances are another parts get faulty again after coil change or if you are lucky it may last long as well.

Go with Coil Change, AC must be inspected by a skillful technician. There can be many reasons for the Gas Leakage. A little like a flare to the coil.
Old ACs have the unmatched quality of parts and performance.
