Lineageos OS?

Anybody has experience installing custom ROM of Lineageos OS? I am new to it and want to upgrade one of my old android phone with new OS using Lineageos OS. I have following basic queries:

  1. Does Lineageos OS provides OTA upgrades once I am on its custom ROM?
  2. Does it has playstore to download popular android apps like whatsapp, youtube, google drive, facebook, etc? Or I need to manually install these apps via apk?
  3. And once I have these apps, will they get OTA updates or apps always needs to be manually upgraded in future?

1. Yes (Official Rom*)
2. Yes (Need to install Gapps package like OpenGapps alongside LineAge package)
3. No issue with PlayStore but w/ custom roms, you will lose Widevine L1 certification (Apps like Netflix won’t be available on PlayStore – Device uncertified). Can be fixed though

Thanks @getready @DrDNA

How to find latest official ROM? I searched xda-developers but its an ocean. Can you help figuring out latest official and stable ROM for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (3G India version)? I posted queries there also: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/lineageos-fo...

found these 2 links as official, are they latest to be used?

Linease os is quite stable.
Playstore depends on gapp you use. Use gapp having playstore eg pico.

Can we install apps like MS authenticator, intune company portal on custom ROM?

I’m using MS authenticator without any hiccup. Company apps can’t say much.

Would there be a problem running banking apps on Los?

Depends on version, banking apps just require OS to be non-rooted(in real with no pseudo non-root like what magisk does by attempting to hide root status) with no major modification in basic google android security code(some OS does it because it seems “too restrictive” to them).

I’m on lineage 17.1 (10) currently having trouble on instagram reels/videos (viewing).
Also SBI cards app won’t function even after magisk hide.
OTA’s are provieded on timely basis with latest security patch gets installed with your permission without hassle.
No problems with google play store and apps do get updated automatically.

sorry for late joining the party.
few thing i would like to add-
1- your device is not actively maintained, so go with last most stable version, latest version doesn’t always mean the best version.
2- i assume you are flashing custom rom first time, so keep another device with active internet connection with you. you might get some error while flashing, or the device might softbrick. that secondary device will be helpful for finding solution and communication. i am not threatening you, but it may happen. you just have to follow the instructions carefully for that specific custom rom.
3- take backup of your device, because it will be formatted.
4- i would suggest resurrection remix 5.8.5 (which you, yourself shared the link above) because of customization, otherwise flash unofficial lineageos for weekly nightly updates, which @coolbuddy has mentioned.

  • i also appreciate that you gave much effort to solve your problem, and i wish you all the best. let me know if you need any help.
    happy flashing!

Try Resurrection Remix, my go to ROM. It’s quite hard to find official ROMs for that old devices as developers usually move on, you have to search XDA only, unofficial ROMs are also sometimes stable enough. Whatever you do always do a clean install.

  • Follow XDA instructions and your are good to go.
  • And also have patience to go through some comments of ROM thread to find latest updates links and solutions to random issues as you won’t find them on first page.
  • Always take app and data backup before flashing any thing no matter how minor it seems. Because in rare cases, dirty flashing rom might not solve it, only clean flash might be solution.
