In another example of cartelization among bankers, several banks have increased or started imposing charges for transaction alerts through SMS as well as for mobile banking. As usual, private lenders have taken the lead, which soon would be followed by nationalized banks
private banks are only good for no frills account
seriously SBI is the best .. thats why PSU banks are good

Service charge can be for anything, ranging from NEFT to IRCTC commission or too many (>30) Transactions in 6 months etc etc. check SBI website for full list of service charge. You cannot assume it is SMS charge.
Rs 17/- charged for using any ATM other than STATE BANK network ATM (Free transaction in Saving Ac= 5 per month)
Rs.17 is the charge for sms alerts only (per quarter) , effective from quarter ending june 2013

there is no restrictions in SBI for number of transactions like 30 in 6 months in UCO bank , but sms charges are there in sbi, live with it or deactivate it , SBI is not that good as you think

(SMS alerts for Credit card and debit card is mandatory by RBI and no bank can charge for it, the bank charges for other SMS such as balance statement etc etc)
And yes SBI Also charges for >30 entries in Savings Bank SB. goto sbi.co.in and type service charges in search box and goto deposit schemes and then click BASIC SERVICE CHARGES RELATING TO DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS
30.Charges for excess debit entries in SB = Rs.5/- per entry. (For entries over 30 per ½ year) (Other than alternate channel/ATM txn. Other than SBI ATMs).
Bhai logon ….this is the entry head “SMS.CHARGES.FOR.APR-JUN.2013” ……so its a fact…..no contesting……
I have only made 3 transaction in non SBI atms. My total transaction is more than 50 though. There may be only two possibilities either its for sms or transactions exceeding certain specified limit.

I have not done the whole analysis ……but my total transaction would be more than 50……the only SMS I receive is for password and atm withdrawls……

This is a charge that most of us get hit and not many of us are aware of.

SBI never informs customers about increase in annual ATM charges, or any new charges imposed, such as SMS charge, etc. And if one asks for clarification, nobody in the branch knows about it. If banks cannot impose SMS charges as per RBI guidelines, can we file a complaint? Is there such a guideline from RBI?

Just checked my SBI Statement Rs 15 deducted as service charged dont know what for….used sbi atm just once in last month…no mobile banking activated

No Idea bro. All I know SBI has stolen 15 Rs without even informing me 
Edit: Just called Toll free 1800 425 3800 and checked. They said this is Rs 15 Charge for SMS alerts on the ATM card. for the Quarter ending June. when asked how to stop ? he said Please contact Bank.
Edit2: SMS alert on XXXXXXXXX3, disabled successfully.
Disabled via online banking. Dont want this paid service anymore.

Sbi is best in this regard. 0 min balance.Free DDs upto 10000 from net banking.
