Someone stole my brother's phone while he's trying to board the bus. The phone was switched off within seconds. Tried find my device but no luck it shows old location n ring my phone option also not helpful. Now going to police station for complaining about it. please suggest any useful ideas to find it or block the device

These stolen phones are pretty much useless with lock protection ON (Face/Fingerprint/Pin/Password/Pattern). Its possible to get rid of lock screen security w/ Bootloader unlock + custom recovery but if the device is intact (Locked bootloader + USB Debugging OFF) there's no way for the robbers to make the phones work (w/o replacing motherboards). Even the deep flash cable method isn't working with newer redmi phones AFAIK

Like other suggested just file the FIR as a security precaution and get the sim blocked

Forget about the phone..

Lodge a formal complaint in police station stating both the IMEIs , your phone number etc.

Chance of getting back the phone is next to none.

Change google password and get the sim blocked ASAP.

My luck is always bad except that one time when I lost my phone & got it back after 2 hours from a location 7KM away courtesy google find my device lock msg & an honest guy who found my phone. The most important lesson I learned was to have cloud backup of everything important in the phone so now using apps/options to backup all sms/call logs/messaging apps like WA etc every day.
@beamchota @jennyllwilliams @BlueFlash @magur

P.S. To stop sim fraud now incoming outgoing sms service remains disabled for 24 hours on any replacement/duplicate sim.

any smartfone can be switched off/restart by holding the power button for more than 10 seconds. one more thing nowadays the back cover of the phone can be easily removed and disconnect the battery.

also, with the help of test point, modified custom rom can be installed with qpst qualcomm 9008 mode.

Screenshot20230131002723Your 1st Statement Doesn't matched with my Phone Settings! I already told you without my phone unlock no one can power off/restart the device. The back panel battery is a different thing which you are saying. Read my comment earlier once again, i said even if thief is stealing my phone 1st thing what he will do is powering it off and without my password it won't be power off. By that time I will track my phone in just 5 min

@Mufasa I have also heard that except iphones & samsung top end galaxy S series, most other android phones can be flashed using "special tools/software" even if bootloader is locked.
@shraaj
@getready you said it's nearly impossible for the phone which has already bootloader locked to modify

Yes any phones can be flashed by  some software paid tools even phone manufacturers lock bootloader or edl. Those software pass the authentication by fooling the flash programmer file by replacing it with a crack  auth file.

not understood by @shraaj what i mentioned in my previous post. @shraaj if you put one lock the thieves have 100s of keys to unlock it. hooray, you are living in a scientific world.😆😄😃

Ek baar ek chor ko pakda tha. Baccha sa hi tha. Mere doston ne usko itna maara peeta ki bacche ki rooh kaanp gayi. Side mein jo Police waale aaye, woh bhi nahin roke. Mera mere ek dost se jhagda ho gaya tab usne bola ki agar yeh aaj maar nahin khaya toh dubaara behichak chori karega tab se main ek chota chor dhoond raha hun jisko peet ke main yeh sabak kisi aur pe chipka sakun. Koi mil hi nahin raha. Pata nahin kahaan chupa hai. Aapko mile toh meri taraf se bhi peet dena extra 🙏🏻

Yes, it is impossible

Only Manufacturer got access to these (Generic Qualcomm/Mediatek tools hardly work but there are official leaked service tools like MSM [via EDL] for OnePlus and probably RealMe, Oppo too.. but there aren't leaked ones for all brands and there's no way to do this without data loss) and they don't them in their official service centers either (Direct Motherboard replacement)

I don't understand this like what do they get by stealing phone, there's no way they can unlock it, least they can do is sell parts or recycle.

My Phone has a feature called without my phone password/pin it will not POWER OFF Or Switch Off and whenever I am travelling 99% Chances "My Data Will be ON" and one more thing by swiping down My Internet or Any Other functions cannot be turned on/off without opening my phone Password/PIN.

Also,Most of the time I turned on my location for various reasons like Google Maps,OLA,Uber or Food near me so it's a WIN WIN Situation for me in these Robbery Cases. Finding my phone feature is good for me. Also,there is a SIM LOCK/ UNLOCK Feature in our phone even in NOKIA too Old ones where you can create a PIN for your SIM to turn it on while Switching ON. My phone bootloader is locked and phone is not rooted, device is IQOO NEO 6

Bro even my phone is having that feature but don't let the thief know that AIRPLANE MODE works from notification bar even if locked! 😉😝😹

@chipi Sorry, my bad. It's 30+ seconds for some phones. It's inbuilt in Android itself in case the phone/ui hangs up, so pressing the power button for 30+ triggers a hard restart. Try it once and let me know.
https://support.google.com/android/answer/7...98

Also, tbh, a thief need not switch off the phone to prevent you from tracking, he can simply physically throw out the SIM card, rendering the network/tracking useless (wifi is of no use in outside environment). Or better even use a Faraday's bag/pouch which simply cuts of all electric fields till he wants.

And, yes, I agree, in general, the best a thief can do is to sell individual parts of the phone, if you have taken proper security measures like adding a strong password/pin, which prevents from accessing directly; along with a google account which prevents a soft/hard reset since android always ask previous logged-in password if reset; along with OEM account (Mi has one) which further prevents flashing/unlocking from bootloader/recovery without OEM account password. Obviously, replacing the mobo or using an EDL firmware tool (had one from Motorola via leaked source long back) might work, although the IMEI has to be changed (can use some old dead phone's one). Also, a SIM PIN lock is definitely recommended to prevent unauthorized use of network (calls/sms), especially if it happens to be linked to banking OTP/2FA.

About SIM PIN lock, android had a security flaw until recently (at least on pixel devices) where we can insert any locked SIM and get past the device security measures (w/ no data loss)
