are they both same? i see dolphin network coming in my area , suggest me how to port to bsnl in delhi

Dolphin is MTNL. While there has been talks of MTNL-BSNL merger, it has not yet happened. You cannot get BSNL in Delhi service area. But MTNL will work on BSNL network outside Delhi/Mumbai.

Jio was keeping numbers active even after people stopped recharging for months. As per regulations, these numbers can be deactivated any time. Now it seems they are finally deactivating those numbers. The sharp drop in number of subscribers of Jio last month is an indication of this.

Airtel and VI also stop all services when numbers are not recharged and then deactivate the numbers. So cannot blame Jio for this.

If this is true then the one possible reason could be kyc issue
May be these nos were issued using either fake deatils or agent made mistakes with data. Just a guess.

“In use” numbers can be of 3 types,
1 – Those that had not been recharged for months but “in use” for incoming calls
2 – Those that have been regularly recharged but KYC not properly updated
3 – Those that have proper KYC and regularly recharged and having proper validity from last recharge.

Only if the 3rd type is deactivated, then that is against the rules.

And what does ‘recharge’ mean. A 20 Rs topup every 90 days is sufficient?

TRAI in 2013 stated that

1. The mobile connections of prepaid consumers shall not be deactivated for

any period of non-usage less than 90 days;

2. For the purpose of usage, a voice call/ video call (incoming or outgoing) or an outgoing SMS or a data usage or usage of Value Added Services, or payment of rental (in case of post paid connection) etc. shall definitely fall in the scope of activity, the service provider may prescribe any other activity as well;

3. There shall be no deactivation if the balance in prepaid consumer account is Rs.20/- or more;

4. An ‘Automatic Number Retention Scheme’ shall be implemented for prepaid consumers on payment of reasonable charges;

The most important is the 4th one. Operators are free to device any retention scheme at “reasonable charges”. The amount or the frequency is not defined. So operators can as well charge Rs.50 per month from the available balance in the name of Retention scheme and then deactivate the number as soon as  the available balance becomes less than Rs.20 by this process.

There is also an old regulation from 2008 that permits minimum 200 recharge/usage every 6 months.

So merely adding Rs.20 to the main balance every 90 days is not enough. In any case, a Rs.20 recharge will not add Rs.20 to the main balance as the net value would be less after taxes and admin charges.

If active numbers getting disconnected on a particular area only possible reason is due to fraud. Check whether these disconnected numbers taken from the same shop. Shop owner probably used the ID and took another number in ur name and use it for fraud. I’ve seen a similar tweet from jio customer care happened to one customer.

Jio seems to be deactivating numbers which are recharged using some illegal means (carding or some other source).

Last month I saw some suspicious links which were doing 100 rupees topup for 60 rupees only. Not sure of the specifics but someone told this, so this might be just another reason for it.

why this not reported in any news portal – tv channels or twitter.

in twitter there should be flood of complaints if 1000s of numbers disconnected without proper reason. But not seeing any complaint as of now.

@syed786 please tweet as requested. Also ask those some thousands inactive users to tweet or at least retweet your tweet and post the tweet link here, so that we can retweet and circulate.

also highly wondering what Jio responds about 1000s of sins being deactivated from your locality.

Lastly if those some thousands of users who lost their primary numbers don’t care about a simple retweet, then this whole blame seems baseless.

Jio will be the most trustworthy of all operators  (which to be fair set the bar very low) IMO until of course something like this ever happens to me!

problem is people dose not want to fight.

if this really happened then it is service deficiency and consumer court decision in most of case in consumer fever only and that to with in 45 days.

Today I got an email for my secondary number which is Jio that Rs. 20 has been charged as retention charges.

I topped up for Rs. 50 (39.37) and current balance now is Rs. 81.09 which means prior to topping up with Rs. 50, available balance was Rs. 41.72
According to Jio, they will charge Rs. 20 as retention charges if number isn’t used for 90 days and then again after 30 days till balance gets exhausted before number is deactivated.

After topping up, when I put that SIM in a mobile phone, it was saying mobile is switched off whereas it wasn’t. So, I recharged with Rs. 119, same result.

I know for sure that my number can’t be deactivated as I did recharge within 30 days of retention charges has been deducted today.

What could be the case here? This is my secondary number and I really can’t lose it as it’s a fancy number.

Why not ask them on Twitter? If you have complied to all the company/TRAI policy (seems like you have) with timely recharges, then simply threaten them legally.

Dear Abhishek,

It is sad to know that you are unable to use Jio services as your number got disconnected due to outstanding due and you wish reactivate the same.

I can understand how important it is to get the same number activated.

Please note that your Jio number ending with 8968 has been permanently disconnected due to non-payment against the postpaid invoices generated in the past.

Also, we are sorry to inform that the same cannot be reactivated from our end/via Selfcare.

However, you may try by visiting the nearest Jio Store/Retailer.

Thus request you to clear off the total outstanding at the earliest and thereafter visit the nearest Jio Store/Retailer as soon as possible.

If all the parameters are met then there is a feasibility to retain the number.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to your continued support.

If you require any further information, feel free to contact us at [email protected]
