Reposting a year old topic again-
In these days, saving is as important as earning..
Here are some tips to lower your AC consumption:-

1) Setting Temperature to 25/26 °C :- The most efficient temperature for running an AC is 25.5 °C. Keeping set temperature in 25/26 °C range will lower energy consumption significantly.

2) Using ceiling fan along with AC :- Sounds weird, right? But, using a ceiling fan with AC will help air circulation and will give you chill feel even at 25/26 °C setting range. Also, your fan uses far less power than your AC. So by using ceiling fan, you will end up saving some more units. (Avoid this if you live at topmost floor or your ceiling is subjected to direct sunlight over it. Although you can use it if there is any kind of shade from solar system or water tank over that room)

3) Restrict sunlight in the room :- Try to cover up areas to avoid sunlight penetration in the room. This will help in keeping room cool.

4) Keep Doors and Windows closed :- Keep Doors and Windows closed and avoid using them frequently.

5) Covering Gaps :- Try covering gaps in Windows and gap below Doors as cool air settles below and gets out from those gaps.

6) Turn off AC at night :- Try setting Auto Turn off mode or Sleep mode in AC to turn off AC when ambient temperature is low especially after midnight.

7) Clean AC indoor-outdoor coil regularly :- Try cleaning AC indoor-outdoor evaporator coil regularly with blower. Do this only if you have proper knowledge about the AC. Do this only if outdoor is safely accessible. (With proper knowhow, you can do wet cleaning too)

Bonus Tip :- If you find that the copper line or indoor is frosting frequently (Getting White Frost or Ice) even at normal set temperature, or any oil leakage traces on indoor / outdoor coil or in copper piping, get the AC gas checked from technician. If it is low or leaking, consumption would be high and will deteriorate your AC compressor.

This is from my personal experience, study and professional experience as Facility Engineer.
I hope this will bring some savings at your end. smile

Using a DC BLDC ceiling fan along with AC lowers your AC operating charges.. Using an AC fan will not lower it much as half the power is WASTED as heat that the AC has to now cool..

There is a significant difference between HVAC systems used in commercial establishments in India and homes outside India (developed countries) vs “AC” used in India.
Air Conditioners in India do not ventilate i.e fresh air intake is 0. So be careful with that “seal your room” advice. One can have permanent brain damage if oxygen levels drop too low or CO2 levels go too high.

Your concern is right, but a typical room is never vacuum tight. There is always some air exchange. Covering lower gaps in doors and windows won’t hurt.

Using fan while running AC won’t damage your fan mate!

Using ceiling fan when room is at top floor partially increases your AC consumption as energy is wasted cooling that roof as fan pushes air from ceiling downwards. That’s what I wanted to convey.

I had installed 1.5 ton daikin inverter ac last year in may for my 225 sq ft room. 2ton wasn’t available due to lockdown.

Now, cooling is reduced to half and automatically shut down in 2 hours. Have used it for 2-3 months only though.Technician is saying that i need to replace the ac to 2 ton, as the ac is over working. He says overworking causes damage to inverter models specifically and thus cooling gets reduced. Is he right.? How come a brand new ac can get damage with 10 months of purchase and usage of 3 months.

He is ready to replace the outddor unit free of cost as of now. But he says i will face this problem ever year.
