Scientists have found a direct correlation between poor fitness and acceleration in brain ageing

Do you love to spend more time watching TV or movies and hate to exercise? Go hit the ground running as poor physical fitness in middle age may accelerate brain ageing in just two decades, warn researchers.

“We found a direct correlation in our study between poor fitness and brain volume two decades later which indicates accelerated brain ageing,” said study author Nicole Spartano from Boston University School of Medicine in the US.

People with poor physical fitness often have higher blood pressure and heart rate responses to low levels of exercise compared to people with better fitness.

For the study, published in the journal Neurology , 1,583 people were enrolled with an average age of 40 without dementia or heart disease and took a treadmill test.

They went through another test two decades later along with MRI brain scans.

The researchers also analysed the results when they excluded participants who developed heart disease or started taking beta blockers to control blood pressure or heart problems.

The results showed that those who performed poorly on the treadmill test had brain volume smaller two decades later —— equivalent to two years of accelerated brain ageing.

When the people with heart disease or those taking beta blockers were excluded, lower physical performance was associated with reductions of brain volume equal to one year of accelerated brain ageing, the researchers noted.

The vulnerable ones

The study also showed that people whose blood pressure and heart rate went up at a higher rate during exercise were more likely to have smaller brain volumes two decades later.

“This showed that poor physical fitness causes a loss of brain volume,” Spartano added. — IANS

Nature’s Delicious Medicine

Finally some good news about your favorite treat. A lot of research has gone into chocolate consumption and it turns out its really good for your health. It seems daily doses of dark chocolate can keep the doctor far away.
Don’t go stuffing your face just yet. While dark chocolate has an abundance of benefits experts warn that it also highly fattening and can often be filled with lots of added sugars. Nonetheless, the delicious food has many advantages, you’d be crazy not to want to eat it.

1. Rich in nutrients
Dark chocolate is rich in many of the vitamins and minerals that are vital for your body’s functioning. It has high concentrations of magnesium, iron, potassium, and copper. Magnesium helps prevent high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and other heart disease while iron protects against anemia. Both potassium and copper prevent stroke and cardiovascular disease. Dark chocolate, with at least 70% cocoa, contains a fair amount of fiber, manganese, phosphorus, zinc and selenium, all daily required minerals from your diet.

2. Improves blood circulation and blood pressure
A significant benefit of dark chocolate is that it’s good for your heart and blood because it may improve your blood flow and lower blood pressure. Dark chocolate contains chemical compounds called flavanols. These stimulate the lining of arteries to produce a gas called nitric oxide. This gas sends signals to the blood vessels to relax, which lowers resistance to blood flow and in turn this helps reduce blood pressure. Lower blood flow reduces your chance of blood clots from forming and prevents arteriosclerosis, the hardening of arteries.

3. It’s good for insulin resistance
Another benefit of dark chocolate is that it’s a good option for those with diabetes as it has a low glycemic index, so eating it doesn’t make your blood sugar levels rise. Dark chocolate has flavonoids, plant pigments, which are usually removed from chocolate because of their bitter taste. They help your cells function normally and retrain your body to use insulin effectively, reducing insulin resistance.

4. It can reduce cholesterol
Researchers have found that regularly eating dark chocolate lowers the LDL cholesterol. This is the “bad” cholesterol which is dangerous when oxidized. It can inflame your arteries, and promote heart attack or stroke risk. Dark chocolate contains powerful antioxidants which protect against oxidative damage. Dark chocolate has also been shown to increase HDL, the “good” cholesterol.

5. It improves the health of your skin
Dark chocolate can also be good for your skin’s health. Flavonoids in dark chocolate increase skin density and hydration, and improve your blood flow to your skin. Flavonoids offer some protection against sun-induced damage and can thwart off the reddening effect of burns, however, they can’t replace a good layer of sunscreen.

6. Protection for your teeth
Dark chocolate contains Theobromine, which eliminates bacteria and hardens tooth enamel. If you practice good dental hygiene, dark chocolate can actually lower your risk of getting cavities.

7. It can treat coughs
Theobromine is also a mild stimulant and does wonders for suppressing coughs. This chemical compound blocks the sensory nerves from activity and this stops the cough reflex. Unlike codeine, the active ingredient in most cough syrups, dark chocolate doesn’t have that drowsy side effect.

8. It’s anti-aging and fights cancer
Dark chocolate can keep you looking young because it’s packed with antioxidants, which fight toxins and free radicals in your body that cause damage to skin cells. Not only do the antioxidants slow down the aging process but they can also eliminate certain cancerous cells.
Flavonols, polyphenols and proanthocyanidins are antioxidants present in dark chocolate that help slow the growth of cancer cells. Pentamer, another compound that naturally occurs in cocoa, can deactivate proteins that encourage cancer cells to continually divide.

9. It’s a mood enhancer
It’s well known that chocolate is some people’s go-to food when they’re feeling down. The reason is because chocolate stimulates your body’s production of endorphins and serotonin, hormones that cause you to feel pleasure and happiness. Dark chocolate is also filled with phenylethylamine, the same chemical produced in your brain when you fall in love.

10. Acts as a stress reliever
It seems like dark chocolate is a miracle food because it can also be used to lower the risk of heart disease caused by stress. Dark chocolate helps people cope with stressful situations and feel the effect of stress less. Researchers found that people who ate dark chocolate regularly had lower levels of stress hormones, cortisol and epinephrine, circulating in their blood.

Jaundiced definitions and directions
The definition given for environment in every MBA course is the atmosphere for making profit by creating a market. The very meaning of environment as the natural geography is changed into mere opportunity for making profit by the trader.
In the course on public relations, the definition given for public relations is ‘the effort and tasks involved in getting a good public image.’ Nowhere, there is mention about the need to show respect to the public by informing them real facts. That public relations shall be based on total openness, clear information to the public are not even mentioned. The entire emphasis is on getting a good public image, to be more exact the favourable public image.
In the Law courses the first point to be given as the basic feature is that the most desperate need in India for the poor who are in the majority is getting them justice. That the entire social system is based on injustice and exploitation of the poor and that it shall be changed. But all the lectures are focussed on the great precision of the laws, that law in fact is not justice, that it is part of the great flow of various laws in the world etc.In fact that the law courses are money spinning courses is the total emphasis. I have not come across one lesson which states that the law course has a mission of making justice available to the Indian masses urgently.
All courses in our Universities are geared towards training the students into big money makers. All education courses have dumped education from their curriculums. We are not producing thinkers who are thrilled by the knowledge of nature, propelled by an education system that creates an insatiable urge to explore, think, and contribute originally. We are not emphasizing on the need to dare to make mistakes and to carry on. Conformity and getting confirmation certificates for following the approved points, has become the be all and end all of education. Our brilliant students go to western universities to do advanced research. In India thanks to the UGC requirement of a PhD qualification, there is PhD cooking in every University. Getting a PhD and then getting the UGC scales, increments etc is the main research. And most Universities jettisoned Philosophy.
In most courses relating to Business, Commerce, and Management…, there is no chapter on the need for openness and transparency. We are yet to advance to a definition that profit means, profit to the environment, ecology, Society and lastly (in fact leastly) as profit to the trader, that there shall not be any conflict among the four dimensions.

Particles of Consciousness?

An average mind is capable of 1070,000,000,000,000 ideas. It includes duds like me. To write all those zeros, it will take more than a thousand years. The number of ideas, a brain is capable of is hundreds of times more than the total number of atoms, in the present visible Universe, which is 46 billion light years. You need not use big machines and gadgets to explore the Universe. What all you have to do is to explore your own brain.

The brain consists of trillions of neurons, each neuron connected to many other neurons, a gigantic network, which generates the ideas. But not even one idea can be packed and stored in a bottle or whatever it is. The ideas are stored in the brain itself and those ideas do not remain idle but they work as the foundations of the unconscious conceptualisations that govern understanding. In fact 95 per cent of the total brain profile is the sub conscious where the feed from the conscious mind are processed.

Ideas are products of the mind as a huge interaction with the atoms, energies etc outside the person. When you can see everything—atoms, particles, energies, the basic processes of interactions, then do you see the particles which we may call ideaons (thought particles)? Are there combinations of sub atomic particles which are yet to become atoms? How do particles interact among themselves, before they become atoms? Those particles need the ‘zygote-notice’, to change from the wave state to the state of the particles. Now which type of emotional notice creates which type of particle? The fundamental question is how are thoughts generated by the neurons that create the notice that triggers the process of waves changing into particles, particles into atoms, into molecules, matter, planets, stars, galaxies…?My God, even duds like me are creating so much of cosmic activity, at the sub conscious level!
When I use a huge machine to do research, I come across big anomalies. The machine has to be built in accordance of the principles of Newtonian mechanics. But the principles of Newtonian mechanics fail at the quantum level and also at the level of large bodies like planets, stars etc.If you compare Newtonian mechanics with a pen, then you are trying to use that pen to write on water or in the air. Let us take a scenario, where there are two huge stones placed at a distance from each other. The stones are composed of atoms, which are composed of particles. Those particles do not obey the laws of the Newtonian mechanics. But each stone as a body is subject to the laws of Newtonian mechanics. But the particles travelling between those stones do not follow a straight path but they get curved (Curvature of the space-time). Now when I become conscious of all these things happening between those two stones, what will my notice do to them? Actually what is my notice doing to the machine I am using?

Can you afford to keep Meta physics and physics as separate sciences? Is it not time to integrate and redesign faculties? The most serious science that is striving to integrate the Macrocosm and the individual thoughts is Astrology. Life is viewed as so much time. Time is now space-time. Life can also be viewed as a succession of conceptualisations. Conceptualisations depend on thoughts. Thoughts are generated by the neurons. Neurons depend on electro-magnetism, the basic lepton. So thoughts have to be accommodated in the standard model and the particle, ‘ideaon’, needs equal attention as is given to the Higgs boson or to the elusive graviton. And Astrology has to be accommodated in Relativity Physics.
