It's more about how much they get connected to the movie and its message, that's when we cry. A recent feel good movie where I got quite emotional (and cried slightly at one specific scene towards the end) is - Everything Everywhere All at Once, which has controversial reviews but you will like it if you can connect to the movie and its message about nihilism.

Just finished watching this one too. But I didn't cry.
What a unique way to present a simple message - No matter whichever universe we exist, chaos will be there, which will be result of our own life choices, conditions, if we feed on those chaotic thoughts, we ourselves will create the bagel of darkness that will consume us at some point. We must try to be humble, kind and empathetic, try to see others through their eyes sometimes, stick with the family and hold one another and stop members if they are falling into darkness. There is always something to fight for, nothing matters theory of nihilism is neither the way, nor the message.
Shiddat is what my friends told me, although I did not cry but yes it was somewhat touching.

When there is unbearable noise all around, one understands the power of silence. Seen Fight Club?
