MUMBAI: Any common mobility card issued by any bank across India can now be used for seamless travel in 3,400-fleet-strong Mumbai BEST buses.
The BEST on Wednesday rolled out its National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) compliant system on trial by introducing its own co-branded card at an introductory price of Rs 100 for local commuters.
BEST general manager Lokesh Chandra said, “Our co-branded NCMC cards are issued by a local bank at select bus depots, and will adhere to the norms of National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) which makes it valid on any NCMC system across the country.” Similarly, any NCMC card from any state or union territory across the country will now be valid on the red buses.
Officials from Metro and Railways said they were in the process of making their systems NCMC compliant, and trials were on. Mumbaikars can use “tap and go” prepaid card not just on buses but everywhere that common mobility cards are accepted, like shops and restaurants, and for travel, utility bill payments and even online payments. The card can be easily recharged in all BEST buses by the conductor.
As a trial offer, BEST co-branded NCMC card will be available for Rs 100 against actual price of Rs 150, said an official. Commuters only need mobile verification and either PAN or Aadhaar card to make their NCMC card.
