Hey Guys,

I am looking for a Credit Card for a relative. His spending is mostly offline, and his spending is around 40-50K a month.

10K on Fuel
Rest on Retail Spends/Departmental Stores

Options I am considering:

HDFC Infinia
HDFC Diners Club Black
Standard Chartered Ultimate

Do you suggest any other Credit Card?

I am more inclined towards SC Ultimate because Infinia and DCB are more rewarding for Airmiles transfer. However, with SC Ultimate, One can just purchase Brand Vouchers.

10k on fuel is on the higher side. y dont u check out sbi BPCL octane  card fees 1500, but u get back 1500 worth rewards for first year. and is free if he spends 2 lakhs a year. and this card also gives 2.5 % reward points on departmental, grocery spends which is on par if not better than premium cards for those specific spends

Thanks. But the problem is the unavailability of BPCL petrol pumps nearby.

oh ok, location specific issue. if u can find a pump nearby it is worth it as rewards will be earned on all pos machines unlike other cards which needs their pos machine.

redemption though will be limited to certain pumps which can be done once in while when required

Don't you feel BoB Energie Card is better than SBI BPCL Octane?
It's easy to spend 50K/yr and make it a LTF card.

Yes better card medium use case. But for 10 k pm octane is better. Bob card maximum reward point is 250 pm plus hp pay app cashback. Here it is 625 pm. Also if u using 10 pm for petrol alone, it is easy to spend 2 lakhs a year considering grocery spends

I see. Would you have suggested the same card if the fuel spends were around 5k?

Get SC ultimate.  Infinia is invite only and he won't get it

Also get a IDFC or ICICI fastag and use it for fuel spend. No point getting card just for fuel. 😉

I never knew that I could use FastTag for Fuel. Thanks.

So, I can load FastTag with a CC, earn rewards and then use it for the fuel?

i will not suggest octane. it might be usefull if your grocery spends are  on the higher spends with total spends reaching 2 lakhs a year. otherwise the energie card looks good.

there  is another bpcl card by sbi with charges of 500 only and is waived off on spends of 50k . it gives 4.25% on fuel and 2.5% grocery

IDFC and ICICI FastTag allows that. Do a Google search. I got to know about it yesterday itself.

Any idea how Grocery or Departmental Store MCC is defined?

I want to make sure I get cashback on all of my non-fuel swipes.

Thanks. Why did you suggest FastTag for Fuel? I understand that there is a 0% fee, but how can I earn rewards from it?

CC to FasTag is treated as utility payment..so you get CC rewards... Most CC won't give any reward on fuel.
