Dad is going to Dubai soon for a week through an organized tour. So most of the attraction tickets etc will be already part of tour price. So he will have expenses of what he buys there and such. Even food is sort of mostly taken Care thru tour.

I have ordered the Fi money card for him under my name and I will be filling it with 50K so we can get 0% forex. He will also be taking cash (Dirhams) with him.

I am planning to give him backup card as either HDFC Regalia or IDFC Select First Visa Signature credit card. I understand that these will incur forex markup and both charge 2% as per their website.
Additionally, it seems IDFC also has interest free ATM withdrawal (international too) and only has withdrawal charges which I feel can be used in worst case.

Can anyone tell me if these Indian cards will work fine in Dubai if I have enabled international transaction in app and will it ask pin or otp if he transacts there in shops and such?

PIN

International online usage should be off just in case card is lost

2% forex charges are not that much unless you are going to spend lacs; better give him IDFC or HDFC with Intl POS on

I think these cards give 0% mark up but with high exchange rate, I do not have fi card BTW, always used HDFC/IDFC/Axis all on Visa

PIN is ok since I can tell him pin. Hopefully no OTP since the card is in my name so otp will come to me in India

Hey please be aware of tax applicable. As for now 7 lakh is the maximum intl transaction one can perform in a year. Anything above 7lakh is taxable. Besides, withdrawals and easiness of using the card internationally varies from bank to bank. Therefore ensure that international transactions are enabled on those cards ( not just in your app ) contact your bank to clarify the daily pos/online/withdrawal limits for intl transactions. I had faced several failed transactions although I had enabled intl transactions within the mobile banking app
Moreover, if your cards are Wi-Fi enabled cards then you don’t require an Otp or pin for making single transactions upto 500 AED (136$ Approx) on POS (all pos are Wi-Fi enabled in DUBAI). Any transaction above 500 AED would require you to enter the PIN. I live in the UAE and all info mentioned here are based on my experience. Wishing your Dad a happy / safe journey and a memorable stay in Dubai

Thanks a lot. Yes I will be clarifying with the HDFC / IDFC banks here that my cards indeed have international and PoS transactions enabled.
