Friends, my 3yr old Samsung S8, which is supposed to be water proof, died yday after it got submerged in water at imagica water park. I hv dipped the phone many times in water but it was resisted water and worked all fine, so not sure what happened now. Now how do I backup the data from this dead phone to laptop so I can transfer to new phone as soon as I buy? I do have WhatsApp back up on Google drive enabled so guessing WhatsApp chat should be taken care of. But how to backup all the pictures and docs from phone?

And if someone is aware of how to revive this water damaged phone then pls guide me, I will forever be grateful. So far I have tried keeping phone in rice for 8-9hrs and then in sunlight for couple of hrs but after this also phone didn't turn on.

TiA for all ur help.

Did you put it in the water intentionally?

Did you try putting it in a box of rice for a day or two?

the phone motherboard maybe damaged from the water, try to put it in a container filled with rice and check the phone after a few days.

Don't do anything or try to charge or connect it to pc multiple times as it can increase the risk of more damage.

Take it to a good repair shop and tell him that you only care about the data and ask him to get the data out of the phone. They will be able to tell you if it is even possible.

Already put in rice last night when we returned from water park..kept there for 8-9hrs then kept in sun light for 2hrs then tried to start but it didn't.. I then connected to charger to see if battery is drained but again no luck at all so removed from charger immediately and again put the phone back in rice bowl.

I just removed the SIM tray to take SIM out so that I can put in my spare phone and the SIM card wall all wet..so water seems to be still in there inside the phone

Yes.. I took it with me in the wave pool at water park as the phone is supposed to be water proof and I have taken in water in the past.. I took a few pics and videos as well initially in water, but then after a bit phone just switched off and didn't start again

Show me official documentation from Samsung where it says water "proof"

It appears that you may not have waited long enough to properly dry your mobile with rice. Anyways, it would be beneficial to seek assistance from a professional, as they have drying agents such as silica gel, which can be more effective than using a rice bag.

I don't have any such documentation.. But when I bought the phone the key reason for buying was to take photos underwater as at that time we were going to andaman.. And I searched on Internet and YouTube and got full comfort that phone will serve the purpose and it actually did.. Since then I have submerged my phone in swimming pool many times and never had any water damage.. If u search on net, it clearly says Samsung S8 is IP68 water proof and will not be impacted for upto 1.5mtrs and 30mins in water..

Bro afaik it's water resistant and not proof.if water is clean then probably nothing will happen to it but if it has salt or other substances then it will go kaput.no company provides warranty for water damage, this should matter to you.

Recovery of data is not possible unless your phone get revived even if you take out the internal storage from motherboard & try to read memory from easyjtag plus box or UFI. User data partition is encrypted only the same CPU can decrypt data. So if the CPU gets faulty due to water damaged therew is no way to extract data from the phone. Security is very high level in android after marshmallow.

Most likely power IC might have died due to water damaged. You may ping me for data or reviving of your phone.

Dry water from inside circuit from local or any good repair shop and then keep it idle for 1-2 days and then try to charge it for few hours. It may work.

Same happened with my friends Samsung A series phone he dried water from inside cir through local shop n then after fews days it started again.

It won't respond until or unless all water molecules get evaporated from inside

Bro.. I actually kept the phone dipped in raw (uncooked) rice for 4-5 days and then took it out on Friday and connected to charge and to my surprise it started charging.. Then once fully charged I started the phone and display had gone bad but touch was working so I immediately took all the backup. Now I have again kept the phone in rice and intend to keep there for a week or so to see if display is also back to normal else will see what to do. But atleast I got my backup so won't loose my data. @Mufasa  @kukdookoo

Kismat ha dost ki data is recovered but surely some damage will be done. Keep the phone in a place with no or very less moisture room for few days, by opening the back panel if you can.

Thanks bro. I don't know how to open back cover of Samsung s8.. Abhi one wierd thing that I noticed is they my phone which is of 64gb had 59gb storage used.. But when I took backup it is only of 24gb.. I took backup on laptop using smart switch windows app and then also manually copied all the phone data into a folder in laptop.. Both are 24gb only and whatsapp was not copied so I took whatsapp backup on Google drive which was of 5gb.. Still 24+5 = 29gb so not sure why phone internal storage says 59gb used.

Check youtube on how to open back cover. Attach an external drive using otg cable and try taking backup thru the phone itself.
