New Scam Alert

You might have heard it before but I came to know this today hence posting it.
A connection of mine designed a genuine-looking WordPress site that sells clothes at an unbelievable price. The majority of product is priced between 500-900. which includes a combo of 3 t-shirts, full traditions dresses, western suits.

The MVP is that they provide free COD at any cart amount. so they just tangled the primary trust point of the majority of Indians.

After getting the order, they place the order at meesho. meesho has some functionality that a person can place an order from a seller to the customer with their branding and price. so they choose any random cheap stuff for the customer. so they’re out with their commission and it’s the third-party seller who’ll face the customer. I didn’t understand meesho part clearly, you can take external help to understand their business process.

They do marketing on Facebook/Instagram on daily basis. I wouldn’t be bothered to write this thread but he showed me his Shopify analytics and it just reached Rs. 2lac+ in just 2 months.

It’s pre-diwali time, most people will be on their shopping for clothes. hence posted just for awareness. I don’t want to dig into any debate or flaws, If possible, aware your relatives that COD is no longer the 100% safe option. use your instinct and don’t feel petty to open the package in front of your delivery person.

Thank you.

Only One Solution : Video Recording from receiving the parcel from the delivery boy to the point of opening the box.

What he means to say is that there are shopping websites, which offer pretty good discount and look absolutely genuine and even have CoD; now as a customer you might get reclined and buy from them. But once you get the order delivered and pay your CoD, you would find that the product delivered is just a cheap gimmick than what your ordered in the first place. Hence the suggestion to have the product unboxed before paying CoD for such 3rd party sites. Due to Diwali/Festivals, lot of scams are going on and many people fall for it.

Awareness is the key.

If it isn’t a reputed brand/website (/seller).. the end-product quality is going to be cheap (compared to the promotional images/description)
^^ Especially when it is listed cheaper from a small seller

IMO.. More than Free COD, shopping noobs might get lured to free returns w/ clothing (which again could be false promise or w/ hidden t&c)

cod is never a safe option.
always use cc for purchases.

1)open box delivery is not the option available with delivery company like Bluedart, Delhivery,ECOM .
2)these seller/small companies depend on third party courier services to deliver the item, they r not like Amazon or Flipkart which handles everything from the scratch.

And these delivery service r assigned to deliver the parcel safely to the concerned person.thats it.
First they will ask the money then only they will hand u the parcel

How prepayment from CC is safe could you explain?

S/he means, the “dispute”/ redressal mechanusm offered by card issuing companies or the card divisions of banks.. helps one dispute the transaction and possibly get one’s monies back.. WITHOUT having to go through the legal process of filing a case .. against the counterparty (in a civil court or the consumer grievance redressal fora).

By handing over currency (at the time of delivery), one has practically no way to escalate a fraud/deficiency, except by going through the same counterparty and then approaching the law enforcement and investigative agencies.

For sure will be a unnecessary hassle for such low amounts but have seen even wealthy people fighting for mere ₹5-₹10.

From my angle even for amount around 1K calling customer care and spending time and energy is exhausting triumph and upon that I’m assuming how’ll the customer care executive judge

That’s true. In this case, not ordering from non-mainstrean sites will be wise choice. Open-box delivery is advisable for amazon/Flipkart too. If i am at home, I open the box while delivery person does his entries on mobile. That way I don’t have to waste his time, and in unwanted case I can record his verbal confirmation that I opened the package infront of him

That’s a messy and a long hassle. Also the average person who maintains credit card is ideally smart enough to avoid this clickbait sites. Their target audience is different.

I am afraid that’s the solution, as delivery partner is meesho. They’ll tell you to raise a complaint, and a loop of passing games begins.

In my case I usually feel too embarrassed for asking them to open before delivery
And for Amazon ,if it’s Amazon fulfilled there will be no issue mostly

Good to know that you’d be okay with someone robbing you off your monies, so long as it is “as per you” an insignificant amount.

Translation: jinka haraam ka .. ya “baap” kamaai ka paisa nahiN hota hai… woh tou apni paai paai ke liye bhi (to quote you) ‘jobless’ bann jayenge bhaiya.

Baaki humko nahiN pata, ki ‘baap’ kamaai par jeeney waaley, haraam ki dhan-daulat batorney waaley kya karte heiN.

Bhai-chaarey meiN yaa phir acquaintance udhhari meiN.. versus outright malafide intent (perpetrated fraud) … dono meiN zameen-aasmaan ka pharak hota hai.

@TempAcc Since you mentioned this is one of your connection who is doing this, my 2 cents to you would be, to stay away from these kind of people and have nothing to do with them. They will eventually drag you and your family along with them into the wrong side of the law.

भाई साहब why are you taking my view personally? if you don’t agree then just ignore why are you poking me and Baaap को बीच में ला रहे हो what do you mean by Haraam का comment? तुम जैसे लोग ही हो जो बात का बतंगड बनाते हो I’m speaking for credit card users जो CC रखते हैं और छोटे मोटे धनराशि के लिए chargeback करते रहेंगे उनके पास दुनिया का वक्त होगा वर्ना जो energy time creativity वो chargeback के पूरे process start to end मे लगाता उतने मे कुछ productive कर लेते..
