Only messages from Vi is being delivered. Not even the PORT code was delivered after sending the PORT SMS. OG SMS does work. What can I do? Recharged with Rs 128. Vi customer service has been of no use since over a week. Can't even port out. This is registered with bank account and is one of my primary nos. so it's hard to make do without IC SMS. In my other Vi Karnataka nos. as well no SMS is being delivered when Vi credits free OG for some days. Any other way to generate the PORT code?

I had observed this issue since the last month in 4-5 nos. but since they weren't being recharged I mistakenly assumed that Vi had decided to block IC SMS during the freebie period. Barring 2 all the other nos. reside in 2G handsets. I did check my moving the no. from my smartphone to a basic device but no joy. Now I am only receiving messages in 2 nos. where OG never stopped despite no recharge since years.
I didn't think this would be a major issue so I had only interacted with Vi CC on Twitter. To be fair they were pretty responsive but other than creating several Service Requests and providing a different SMS Service Center no. they weren't of much help in this matter. Today I have sent an email to the Apellate authority but I am not hopeful. I plan to visit the local Vi store tomorrow. This issue afflicted several nos. residing in different devices at pretty much the same time so it looks like Vi is at fault. Nevermind login OTPs from the likes of Amazon, Freecharge etc even the ones I send from my Airtel no. aren't being delivered. A few dimers over the years had faced similar issues albeit with different operators but I don't think they were ever resolved. Porting out was the only solution.
Out of the 4-5 nos. affected starting received messages in one no. today but unfortunately not in the 2 bank registered ones. I had relaxed the DND settings (which had been set to block promotional communications years ago ) in the now working no. and in 1 of the bank regd. nos. but I don't know if it actually was of any consequence or not.
Started receiving IC SMS in one of the bank registered nos. today. Regarding the other nos. Vi insists that they will only deign to help if there is active recharge and not during the freebie period. Oh well.
Again no IC SMS issue has cropped up in the same number this month. 10 days later Vi is yet to resolve it. I am gonna port out if and when this issue gets resolved.
Currently main issue is redeeming the voucher sent by HDFC for meeting CC bill spend criterion. Voucher code has been sent by email. Will IC SMS be necessary to redeem it?
- Do update the mainpost with the troubleshooting you might have already done.
(For example, putting the SIM in the oldest keypad, 2G only phone you could find. Or going to the most cooperative non franchisee VI store in Bengaluru and so on).- Any possibility of speaking to some mid level operations persons in VI, who can help you with the system generated messages they send.
Pretty certain that in the past, some TelCos and even other companies (their staff) could confirm that THIS text/ body of the message was sent to you at so and so time. 'Might' help get the unique porting code. This they cannot deny that they do not know.
Back when I used Orange (it was there in Bombay circle) and they had a tie-up with Idea.
I remember, there was a time when sending messages in roaming cost double. But Orange literally let one login from their website and send the SMS to the desired number via their site.
This🙂 actually never cost more than the standard tariff, even if the physical SIM was in roaming.
I have lost count of the number of times me and my group-mates have written to the Indian authorities that they implement some IVR (calling) or website based system to generate the UPC.
But the buggers are hand in glove with the businesses to keep things complicated.
Actually we started writing to the authorities within 3-4 years of even Napaakistan getting national MNP, but we did not even have intra circle MNP.
Sorry, but for now there is no other way than the SMS process to generate the UPC, from the consumer's end.
The operator surely can tweak the system to generate it from their end.
