Just like Apple launched SE 2020 One plus 8 and 8 pro with prices starting at 42k has gone beyond affordability of a major chunk of population especially students and middle class who are still willing to spend on a quality product. They must launch a lighter version with comparatively lesser specs to keep users continue their loyalty towards their brand. But main thing is they must price between 20 to 30k at max.
Oneplus 8 Lite is rumored but price shows rs 37.5k which is still too high.

A big reason for oneplus’s popularity is being a flagship killer. They tried similar experiment with 1+x and it failed miserably. So I highly doubt if they are gonna launch anything using lower processors.
This price increase is because of 5G whose technology is with Huawei only. You can observe no good 5G phone with SD865 is coming under 40k.
So We will have to wait until 5g technology becomes cheaper.

@siddudeagarwal most brands envy the how successfully OnePlus could grow as a premium brand, it’s kind of a fairy tale story! Brands make peanuts in low and mid segment phones due to cut throat competition and yet strive to produce more devices to have market presence and penetration which one day might help them churn out premium devices that make money. If you compare profits (not revenue nor unit sales), Apple still acquires more than 80% of the worldwide profits from smartphones even though it contributes to less than 10% in global sales, this is because premium devices have such margins. OnePlus could slowly build a similar advantage in the Android world by slowly increasing the prices year on year, building a loyal base and a brand value. I doubt if they would undercut their efforts and get back to 20k to 30k price range anytime soon.

Apple iPhone SE 2020 is a different story, it’s not their primary device nor a yearly upgrade. The last SE was released almost 4 years ago and they pushed out a refresh now with a dated design and an attractive price. They can afford to do it as they already command a strong presence in the premium market globally. OnePlus has a biannual refresh cycle for their devices and can’t afford to push out such an affordable phone when they could slowly climb up the ladder and yet retain their position well.

but dont you feel a significant portion of their user base may switch considering price and affordability in mind. If one is working he can still manage and buy but for students who depend on their parents to buy these will have a tough time convincing the markup on spendings I guess confused
