OPINION: Is HDFC Phasing out Regalia?

It is quite astonishing to see that many Regalia (and Regalia-First) users have reported receiving “upgrade” offers to Millennia. Its seems somewhat counterintuitive as Regalia has been HFDC’s flagship product for years, placed at a level up over Millennia. Although, Regalia has been devalued/diluted from rewards rate aspect into a very ordinary card over the years, it has traditionally been a Top-tier card (compared to Millennia, labelled as a Mid-range one).

The new move seems to imply Regalia’s days might be numbered, and will possibly be superseded by New Millennia, following the exact roadmap through which HDFC has been phasing out Regalia-First. A forced/compulsory upgradation may be hovering down the horizon for all Regalia holders, into Millennia or Infinia or other cards.

HDFC seems to be on a road to overhaul its entire spectrum of Credit Card offerings. Phasing out Regalia-First, introduction of Infinia Metal Edition and revamped offerings on Millennia are few indicators of the frame-shift. There are early indications emerging of refreshed offerings on DinersClub platform.

Regalia went into the trash last year itself when the devaluation happened. 99% of the time Millennia is better than Regalia even though it’s supposed to be the lesser card. The only reason people still keep Regalia over Millennia is just so as to get the upgrade to Infinia, since the general route for Infinia is via Regalia and not via Millennia. And maybe some 1% of the people who use the international lounge PP, free golf courses, airport spa, and other such luxury features of Regalia.

Earlier 5% cashback was applicable for purchases through smartbuy and min 2000. Looks like now purchase made without smartbuy is also applicable for 5% cashback and with no monthly limit. Correct me If I am wrong

I’m sorry but I don’t agree. after the devaluation of millennia, regalia seems to be a better card now. Even earlier regalia was better because smartbuy had a capping of 2000 / month and unlimited point accrual though point value was low. To make up for it hdfc ran campaigns such as 2x points on tap n pay and 3x points on payzapp transactions. The only thing good in old millennia was 10% cashback on insta vouchers but for that I need to guarantee that I accrue 2500 points in a year. The new millennia brings min redeem to 500 but devalues 10% cashback to 6% which is almost equal to regalia.

Going to hold on to my LTF Regalia and will refuse any upgrade unless it’s to DCB/Infinia – LTF or not.

Am a heavy airport lounge user and am sitting in a lounge right now lol.

Privilege is definitely better because it has monthly mile stones and a few more partners where you get extra points. The only disadvantage is that since it is diners, the acceptance is a bit less than regalia.

I think my statement was in context with my spending and usage pattern, which I shouldn’t have generalized; my bad. Given an option, I personally would have gone wirh Millennia (older variant) over my Regalia, based on my usage pattern. I couldn’t juice out any decent value from my Regalia CC till now sad

True.. if you are a medium spender old millennia was a go to choice and I’ve also suggested it to many people.. but in my case regalia seems more profitable.

Just out of curiosity, what’s the current difference between Millennia credit cards (older & new variant)

Does this mean if we have an older Millennia credit card, we are still eligible for

  • 2.5% on 2k+ online txns
  • 10% on smartbuy gyftr GVs

When I check HDFC’s millennia page, seems to be so

Yes, from whats written, it clearly says that people who already had Millennia before that 30th Sept date, will continue to get the same benifits that you have been getting as usual. Only the people who get the new Millennia after that date will be getting new benifits and not the old one.

New: https://www.hdfcbank.com/personal/pay/cards/mil... (Please refer the TnC for the max cap and all)

For sure these are not on new millennia, just fingers crossed if HDFC honor these for old millennia cc. Since they still have similar offer for Millennia DC, there’s a chance they might keep the offer for old Millennia CC too, but honestly speaking I doubt this. Though as @BlueFlash mentioned, from the millennia product page.. it seems the offer should continue for old users.

Might be 10% as before (15% during extra savings days)

Honestly right now I have no idea, will love to know if somebody will sanely talk with HDFC and clear all doubts.

Already effective for old customers too.
For existing HDFC Bank Millennia Credit Cardholders (i.e., to whom the card has been issued on or before September 30, 2021) the revision in product features shall be applicable with effect from November 01, 2021

You are correct, but why list the 2 separate cards on their product page, that’s what is surprising and very misguiding too

Only 1% CB received for BigBasket payment using PayZapp. (Marked as Offline Wallet transaction) stuck_out_tongue
Big bummer. Keeping the card, only as its an LTF subscription.

Looks like, HDFC is turning SmartBuy into a Infinia/DCB- only portal. Practically, other cards are only as good as non-HDFC cards.

@sudbht694 , would have certainly quit, had I been paying a single rupee as annual fees.

This you are saying for October months right? I have received 10% for Instant vouchers and even for amazon purchase. From November it got changed. Have to see it in the next statement.

I checked hdfc diners privelege Credit card reward structure, you get 4 reward points for every Rs 150 spent and each reward point value is 0.5 in smartbuy hotels/flights and 0.20 value in cashback.
I see axis ace credit card is better than this card which gives 2% cashback for all transactions and will be the best card than diners privelege Credit card.Any suggestions on this. Please comment.

Depends how your spending patterns are…
ACE is one of the good card with 2% cashback.

Even diner Privilege is good card if you can spend accordingly and maximize the benefit

1. Milestone benefit is around 1% which is on top of all the reward points you get (vouchers from Ola Select membership or cult.fit Live membership or BookMyShow or TataCLiQ worth ₹ 500 each, every month on spends of ₹ 40,000)

2. 4 rewards points per Rs150 spend, but they also have 10X partners…so 40 points per 150 spend…do the % reward yourself smile . can ignore if you dont find it of much use

3. Complimentary annual memberships of Amazon Prime, Zomato Pro, MMT BLACK, BB Star and Times Prime can also be availed upon achieving annual spend milestone of ₹ 5 Lakhs… Ignore this as not everyone is going to spend 5Lac on single card. but this is easy approx 0.4% on top of 1% + rewards that we get

4. Insurance and credit shield cover that comes complimentary with the card..

if you are just interested in the cashback ACE wins…but as a package diners privilege is much better card.
