What do you think about the new Alkaline feature of water purifiers? Is it beneficial and worth it?
As per Eureka Forbes, they give pH till 8.5.
They claim that it is beneficial for high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol patients etc.

Round of slow claps for these makers.

So these makers de-mineralize(by passing to through RO) the input water, take it therough ionization to increase the pH (make it alkaline), add minerals, and then serve it with added marketing. I see a lot of irony

Don’t take my rant/comment for medicinal facts, but alkaline wate is overrated.

There are many studies done to see the advantage of alkaline water in place of neutral(normal) water, but every study has their pros and cons. The most common thing I hear or read is increased alkaline water consumption alters the way our body function against the increased alkaline levels. To combat it produces more gastric juices. And one of the uses of alakaline water is to neutralize extra(?) acidity inside. I see a catch-22 situation here.

And when one consumes alkaline water, the body will/may accustom to it over time, and when one surprises it with neutral(normal) water during travel, out of station etc such instances, the body will get confused or produces the usual gastric juice to maintain the balance, which is not needed when normal water is consumed. So this situation will lead to increased acidity. So one need to carry enough water for their usage or pack the machine itself.

I hope I have given enough leads to add to existing doubts/confusion.

Right! And what do you think about the mineraliser which adds copper and other metal ions to water? Is it good?

I bought an alkaline water purifier myself despite knowing that the many benifits touted by them may not be true. I think there is no harm in using alkaline water (takes time to get used to it) as compared to the acidic RO water. Only thing that one needs to consider in either case is that a mineral guard is in place. The TDS should be maintained just above 100, else we are just drinking distilled water.
Not a big fan of copper ROs. Also I won’t go for alkaline purifiers like kangen which cost lakhs.

Just curious, how do you say RO water is acidic in nature? TDS, yes close to 0 in case of RO, but pH?

And do you feel any gastric issues when you drink normal water instead of alkaline water?
