PayPal says to shut domestic payments business in India
PayPal Holdings Inc will wind down its domestic payments business in India from April 1, the company said in a statement on Friday.
San Jose, California-based PayPal will instead focus on its cross-border payments business, which means global customers will still be able to pay Indian merchants using the service.
“From 1 April 2021, we will focus all our attention on enabling more international sales for Indian businesses, and shift focus away from our domestic products in India,” the company said.
“This means we will no longer offer domestic payment services within India from 1 April.”
PayPal was a payments options on many Indian online apps such as travel and ticketing service MakeMy Trip, online film booking app BookMyShow and food delivery app Swiggy.

No issues. They never cared about Indian market and never simplified payment process for Indian consumers. I always faced payment errors because of cookies issue and it’s legacy problem with Paypal.
Effects of loooooot!! Many created multiple accounts to get cashback.
Not multiple , some dimers created 500’s of account when one debit card was working for 8-10 times .
no loot. it was loot for paypal. After collecting and selling personal data of huge no of customers they ran away from the country. ppl are happy with silly cashbacks. they got real
Dimers have multiple names/accts / numbers / address …. all they got is imaginary data and virtual card nos .
which was over long back.
Unknown refunds , deductions , credits for transactions … which took days to resolve .
I haven’t even used PayPal for domestic transactions, all were international transactions usually on AliExpress, & some hosting sites.

Paypal was always like this step child in India, RBI had put a lot of restrictions early on Paypal at a time, even before people got a whiff of Wallets…
Earlier we were able to make international payments with the Wallet balance, however RBI had since then forced them to link Indian User IDs to a bank account and withdraw the money..
IT was the first wallet, but sad to see it go, it was one of my trusted accounts that I’ve ever used…
