Petrol filled up in diesel car

Today my friend took my Hundai Grand i10 cdri Diesel car. And he accidentally filled up 120 rs(nearly 1 ltr) of petrol when the petrol pump guy realized that this isn't petrol car. PPump guy advised him to fill up 10 litre diesel so that there would not be any problem. He drove 50 km and returned me Car and narrated the incidence. I searched on internet and I found that immediately tank should have been drained and fresh Diesel should have been filled up. What I can do now.

Petrol nozzles are thinner than diesel for a reason .. in ideal world your story is all fake ..anyways .back to OP

By mistake is some amount of petrol is added in Diesel.car it's just fine...take it for long run and add more diesel ... Diesel engine can handle such small amount without an issue.. .biggest problem is petrol is dry fuel where as diesel act as lubricant for injectors ..if petrol is added in small quantity it won't cause any damage ..

Shouldn't your friend have called you the moment they realized the mistake, instead of taking the pump guy's advice and driving 50 km on a petrol-mixed diesel car, before narrating the incident to you?

Have no idea what should be done now. Or how much damage it might have caused already.

Best was to design it out & not starting the engine although adding diesel to dilute the petrol was still fine than running it on petrol completely.

Visit a mechanic possibly reliable/known as there might not be any major effects.

I always get down and confirm if that's petrol and stand there itself unless the nozzle is removed then tap my card and leave the pump..

I hope OP might have already told his friend to empty his tank.

For me this happened an year back..but diesel filled in my petrol car..i searched online and learned from mechanic..here is my points.. 1. if petrol filled in deisel car engine might burn/ fail.

2.usually it should be drained, but as it alresdy drove 50km , let us discuss next point.

2.car engine  can manage if 5-8% petrol mixed in diesel car.
Now, only way dilute as much as or empty it .

3.as long as running, there is no worry.

4.if speed , sound, pickup is fine, then all good, no service required

Whenever I start having doubts about the concept of a/some Supreme being/ God..
... and get presented with such instances...
... the thought gets reinforced within me..
..that mere evolution or some geographic events could not have got us (Homo sapiens and earlier humans) to rise up the ladder.

At-least Homo sapiens being at the top of the food chain.. still mystifies me!

May be you need to remove oil

Diesel density is higher than petrol density so diesel settle at bottom and once all diesel consumed petrol starts entering inside engine.

And you need to empty tank before this happen

In case if diesel and petrol are miscible you need to dilute as much as possible

Diesel in a petrol car -> nothing tragic ll happen

Petrol in a diesel car -> since petrol is thinner than diesel something tragic might happen.

Bhai. Goto a mechanic. If you are lucky the petrol is still in the fuel tank as diesel is denser than petrol petrol ll float over diesel. The tank needs to drained. Injectors n fuel pump needs to be flushed. Diesel cars operate in compression ignition principles. Petrol ll burn rather quickly n cause severe knocking. The heads and blocks are heavy duty ones but this knocking ll cause em to stutter. If you have seen cold start video of massive trucks then you must have observed that they use light aerosols like ether to start the engine by spraying them into air intake filter. But that's that. Before anything drastic happens goto your mechanic/,service centre. Inadvertently your friend has pushed you into a financial catastrophe. Just inform him everything. And if he could contribute something then it ll be alright.

Many comments written by many..those were correct..

1.if diesel in petrol car...oil filters might fail .need to replace filters

2.if petrol in diesel car..engine might burn.
