Lasting for 7-8 years. So you need a brand with the lowest failure rate. Buy a macbook air or buy a Thinkpad.
Create a paid acct on Oracle, build your machine in the cloud and buy a cheap chromebook to access it.

Am planning to buy LG Gram 17/16 inch (32Gb/2TB) with i7 13th Gen processor; is avaialbe for around $1200. Using LG gram for past 6 years- no issues with amazing battery life and lightest laptop you can imagine.
