Problem faced while having Amazon India and US Account with same email

What is preventing you from stopping to use the account wherever it’s not needed? Create another account for whatever the specifics and move on.

I have both US and India account on same email and I use US account whenever I travel to US. My US account access is very rare, so I don’t have the mess you are dealing with .

If you chnage any details/delete account it will Happen to Amazon Us/India account as well.
Best solution is Create new account with different email

Issue happened when I logged in with the account to use my echo device. The device thinks that its located in the US even if it’s in India. I tried changing the county and language to India but that did not helped either ☹️

I did that (created a new account) finally seeing no other option or alternative. Since a person can have only one Amazon Pay account at a time, I updated the mobile number on the old one to a US-based number. That action disabled the Amazon Pay Balance in the original account. Before updating the number, I deregistered my Amazon Pay UPI Id and deleted the linked bank account. I created a new account with my Indian mobile number and verified it. The Amazon Pay Balance was set up and activated automatically. However, the only issue is that I will not be able to use Amazon Pay UPI in my new account since it will be blocked for 90 days. So I have to wait till that time to get to enjoy the Amazon Pay UPI offers again.

Where are you currently based in?

I’m currently in India and I have a echo device. I didn’t face the issue of location etc you are talking about. There may be a solution, but hey my mobile number in amazon is of network in India

I am based on Pune, MH now.
I feel the issue happened more because the echo was purchased in the US and it may have some internal setup already done for US.

Nevertheless, I am ok to start afresh now.

Lesson learnt, if you are switching geographies, then never reuse the same account (email address/ phone number) even if the website has the option to let you do that.

There is the reason. I observed the Amazon devices purchased on amazon.com are usually linked to the account it is ordered from or geography unless you specifically mention to delink while ordering. You can also connect to customer care and request them to do that. They may be able to do on making a small payment as per tnc.
PS: I bought a fire tab for friend, and there are ad and ad free versions, ad free being at higher cost. The one with ads can also be made ad-free by customer care upon paying the difference amount

Technically Amazon is just 1 account…(options are different based on the URL or country you have selected ). Amazon app has country selection in setting. Because it is just 1 account different address default and payment not possible. In past I have done shopping via Amazon US, Amazon Australia vis same account and no issue faced (one can select the address and payment for each orders so not a big deal here )

And another funny thing is I was not able to install amazon US app on my mobile when I travelled there. I’m least bothered to change the country settings etc in my playstore just to get this.

This may be a stupid question but the echo that you have, was it available officially in India at any time? I am asking this because I too have my amazon account which was created in US but now I am using in India.

I have a Fire TV 2 Box which was never available in India, I have 2-3 4K Firesticks also that I got from US. Now all these are registered to my amazon account and in my fire stick 4K, I can download all Indian streaming apps fine but in the fire tv 2 box, some apps don’t even show up and I actually see apps like HBO Now etc. which are US centric. I believe that since the stick is officially available in India, its setup is fine and all “Indian” stuff works but that is not the case with Fire TV 2 Box.

Another example, I also have a Fire HD 10 bought from US and in the amazon app store, I only see prices in dollars and not in rupees. This tablet was also never officially available in India.

When I bought the Echo device from the US, it was not available in India. I believe the echo was launched here much later than when I bought it from there. The issue that you mentioned about FireTV Stick happened with me too. I too see the prices in dollars etc. That’s the reason I bought an Echo and Firestick 4K from here to use it with my new Amazon India account.

That’s true and may have worked in the initial years when Amazon was launched in India. Later they had to launch a new app (Amazon India Shopping) specifically to be used with Indian accounts and that is when all the issues must have started. This new app is not available on the US app store

I meant different thing. Amazon India app works while in US, no fuss. But I was not able to install amazon US app on my India region set phone. Anyway different topic altogether, lets not bother.
