Qn:- Delivery Partner Fees and How does it actually work ?

Hey All,

Offlate every body has been ordering food online using popular services like swiggy and zomato.

With introduction of pro plus and swiggy super/one membership these help customers reduce the delivery fee charge paid by them.

Now we all have heard of the situation delivery partners are in that they are not earning sufficient money or getting what they deserve.

So i wanted to discuss about this here in the community to understand if anybody has insights on how are the delivery partners paid ,on per delivery basis or fixed amount for a given day/week/month if they satisfy a certain criteria.

Also to understand better if someone can compare food delivery with normal e-commerce delivery to show the difference could also be helpful from services like delhovery,xpressbees,ekart and amazon etc.

Also now that delivery service has reached saturation in metro cities at least, would like to know about recent insights about amount being paid and not the one precovid wherein too much bonus and offers were used to be given.

PS:- The reason for creation of this thread is to understand a delivery partner better so that i/we could try helping/serving them better next time.

For example :-

Let say with swiggy instamart i order worth 100-150 regularly with free delivery so how does it work out for a delivery partner delivering the order at night 12am in a rainy day or a winter month

Like for Instamart too, since they have a 8-10kilo limit per order,
they let normal riders pick those up.
We may get charged just 5Rs. for delayed/ time slot delivery.
But rider still gets approximately 8-10Rs. per kilometer.

my friend’s friend is a delivery guy with swiggy(maybe zomato i don’t remember).he was a b.com student back then and we knew each other by face. coincidentally one day he came to deliver me. the dude came in a kawasaki ninja 300. i was like “kitna kama leta hai bhai”. he was like “pocket money aur bike ka karcha nikal jata hai”. to be clear he didn’t buy the bike using his swiggy earnings he simply said his pocket money and bike’s needs are covered by the money he made.

my only pet peeve is multi orders that delivery guys get with swiggy. i pay for delivery once, the other customer pays for delivery again and i get into the second slot and i get the order cold and late coz he was delivering the first guy’s order even though my house is nearer to the eatery and the dude has to cross my house to deliver to the other guy and i can do nothing about it.

I thought it was an oddity or a one off thing, when it happened to me.

Thanks for making it easier on me, to be aware that this shitty practice is standard operating procedure of theirs.

They too have a threshold for how often or for what all reasons a buyer reports issues or gets refunds or partial refund coupon or back to source.
So I let it pass the first time it hsppened to me.

I also tried checking out other places to understand this better.

Based on latest posts i could see that Swiggy and Zomato guys on average are earning about 500/- day post bearing petrol and other charges , which kind of seems ok-ish considering the employment issue countries are fscing due to covid.

Also to understand better i see swiggy looks better than zomato as with swiggy genie and seiggy instamart the chances of getting orders increase.

If doing it full time and if really getting regular orders then yes, numbers/ net saving achievable.

These apps though, and even Amazon, though penalises D.A. based on parameters like even (in case of Amazon) whether D.A. can convert a POD/COD order to digitally paid order.
Else next few days they get less deliveries.

dude i really don’t know. it happens to me during that evening snacking time. i live smack in between 2 colleges and all cheap&good eateries are max 2-3 kms from my house, yet i keep getting multi around 20-30% of the time (which IMO is quite high) coz students order food during evening and my rotten luck that i keep getting the 2nd slot most of the time. the delivery guy says that i can’t deliver you coz your address will not show up on the map unless i deliver the first order.
i got refunded only once coz the dude on the first slot was a dense motherfcuker and he couldn’t convey the address on phone and his gps location was way off. the guy arrived 40 mins late to my address with a cold hard pizza and i was like nah dude it ain’t happening.

Have given me some idea (specific to one metro and one mediocre turned upcoming smart city).

Amazon Transpirration services is the most weird and leech-y.

Via Amazon Flex, for morning, noon: three hour slot (usually guaranteed delivery date timeout) they even pay 450 rupees fir the slot.
Rider gwts screwed if his bag/load is more than 40-42 parcels, as time is crucial and then DSR has to be above 92-93%

Amazon Flex even slot rates are under 400 bucks in most big cities.

Those with their own stores/ kirana or IHS partners; agsin get 10 or 12 rupees and if Delivery Success Rate (DSR) is above 92-93%, then 3 rupees incentive per parcel.

Amazon’s master vendor companies usually tie-up with people who have a mini pickup truck or van.
Vendors might pay the “large parcel” delivery guts even 40 rupees per parcel (if the vehicle is of the D.A.).
These big vendors, durung peak season even pay the old timer D.A.s 14-15 rupees for on-bike 🏍 deliveries and some petrol incentives if deliveries in a far off locality.

Ekart vendorships are too weird and non standard to compare.


With Swiggy, and this has already been discussed often.
Lime for Instamart too, since they have a 8-10kilo limit per order,
they let normal riders pick those up.
We may get charged just 5Rs. for delayed/ time slot delivery.
But rider still gets approximately 8-10Rs. per kilometer.

Like they are literally able to mske 1000+ rupees per day too (minus petrol and bike costs).

For some reasin, when one Rapido guy (acting on roll of Swiggy) was snubbed by us for picking the (restaurant) order despite them not giving the GST invoice
He coolly said okay then I am not coming to deliver.
Swiggy Hyderabad (order management) team even took him on con-call.
We said yes, we do not entertain riders without helmet and he should not taken the paneer masala plus 5 roti WHEN THE SHOP DID NOT GIVE THE EFFIN’ INVOICE.
Swiggy refunded us the 110-115 rupees (net of SWIGGYIT) but on call warned him that he would be penalised 170-175.

He even more calmly said okay.

Since he was too young, we kept calling him and told him to take the 100-150 rupees (token gesture) from us.
But he (hardly 22-23 years) insisted, no issues sir… I already ate the nice paneer masala and rotis … so it is adjusted! (It was past 9p.m.).

Swiggy, in tier 1 or 2 cities is paying them good. Almost 8-9 rupees per kilometer.

No wonder swiggy showed me 47₹ delivery fee for 3.5km away restaurant cry

Yup selective restraurant + ₹199 is really bad

Dont worry Jeff bhai has already put his footsteps into food delivery , once he gets aggressive these ants will wash away like ambani washed of aircel , telenor and other ants.

Amazon already offers free delivery + fair pricing of food items and no packing charges for now.
Even if other things change with amazon prime one thing will be consistent free delivery

Still swiggy one is useful as it’s 75/mth if u take yearly plan; which can be covered easily in just 3 orders per 30 days.
And yes 199 is for some big Cities, for all other it’s still 149

Hearing a lot about amz food but it’s been almost 3 years now but Amazon food hasn’t been rolled out anywhere apart from 1-2 cities which is quite sad

Amazon doesnt look to be in a hurry , probably trying to understand the market situation and also they need to have foot hold on other things too

They want to be leader in E-commerce, WALLET Services , Payments , Groceris , Entertainment.

Expecting fulfledged rollout for most of the top tier cities next year.

Also dont forget about the fact how these big cos use concept of unions and threaten restraurants from refraining them to be listed on amazon.
There are delivery partner unions too , so lot of things to be considered.
