I have booked 2 tickets from my IRCTC account and both tickets are in waiting list. Now I want to book Tatkal tickets (Same Journey, Same two persons). The query is "Do I need to cancel my waiting list tickets before booking the tatkal tickets from the same account?" Please advice.

You can book the whole compartment...with the same name if IRCTC allows it (Only 12 ticket per USER ID in month)

Thanks for the info...I have added info to master list already.
I find the irctc app much faster, as in a session if you load the masterlist once, it keeps it loaded, no server calls. Also unless something has changed, during tatkal time the masterlist doesn't show up on desktop site.
- Basically have masterlist ready just with the passengers you want to have in journey.
- Have a second device with UPI ready for the payment (I prefer Phonepe).
- Keep the UPI copied on the device which will be used to book the tickets.
- Login 2 mins early.
- Search for the train and go to the booking page for previous day to just load the master list once.
- Go back to search and go through the booking once the timing happens.
Do some trial runs early, so that you know which option to select while paying. I use the Bhim UPI powered by PayTM, I don't login to paytm, just paste the UPI and approve from the second device which already has phonepe open and unlocked.
I have been able to buy tickets within 1-2 minutes of the opening time. I use iOS irctc app and believe that android one will be suitably fast as well. I rely on UPI as there's no OTP involved and if phonepe app is logged in and open, it alerts as soon as the request is received.
Sadly I was so fast, irctc had banned me once, had to raise the issue on twitter to get my account unbanned. I had written my steps which I had done and they accepted . Previously they had a very simple UPI address input option, they changed it right now.

They should just follow lottery system to be fair to all or dynamically start new train when there are confirmed passengers(at least between heavy rush routes)
present system is favors a lot to technically sound and people with better facilities like mobile/PC/Internet...

As suggested by the dimers above. follow below points
1. Master list
2. Payment method UPI (preferably phonepe with PayTM bank combo)
3. App / website - Both have same impact, but i will prefer app.
4. Try with Prem Tatkal and if u fast enough u can book the ticket in normal tatkal fare in Prem Tatkal quota.
Edit: While checking found that No Prem tatkal quota for this Train.
So better to try with 2 different accounts. Login in App and website with each account and try. Same internet can be used.

It took me a couple of minutes to log in again, the tickets were still available, so I tried booking & did payment, and the tickets came on a Waitlist. Successfully wasted time and money. As suggested by the dimers above. follow below points

Seasonal days like Today, there is 99% chance that repeated logout, server crash, etc. (same happened with me today).
