I need to send a smart phone (old/used) to my parents in another state in India. Any safe and reliable options? I kind of try to stay away from courier services as they look spooky to me when I mention the package has phone although I choose the package as mentioned by them. Please suggest if any recent experiences/success stories. Thanks!

Safe but not affordable – bluedart. But they will force you to sign indemnification letter.

@DimeDime @DealFinder had experienced this earlier with bluedart, the moment I mention the item is an electronic gadget, the charges will hit the sky with no proper assurance of the transit

Some daredevil friends of mine have sent expensive CPUs(without HSF) and phones using SpeedPost.

Try finding the volumetric weight. Then get the online estimate. Then try your luck at different branches of bluedart.

I did send once a phone fooling the indiapost system, but can’t test my luck again. I’m also checking with my contacts to find if someone is traveling, but I don’t see much luck there

Indiapost doesn’t accept electronics as far as I know. Need to check if they have any updates. FedEx yet to explore, but will definitely charge huge.

edit: I’m aware of available options in the market, but wanted to hear from any recent experiences/ success stories. Absolutely no offence meant for your suggestion.

There’s nothing safe as such. It will depend on your luck. I’ve been using India post and DTDC since 2010 to ship products and there has been 2 or 3 times when the product received by buyer was torn, the outer package that is. You just need to know how to pack an item well, use bubble wraps, and lots of duct tape to cover the package. Then use a solid water resistant plastic like we used to get from eBay and wrap it well so that there’s no parts exposed to the inner package. When pasting the receiver’s and your own address on the outer package use transparent duct tape to cover them so the ink is unaffected in case of rain.

They all will throw the packages in transit, you can’t control that. That are all pieces of shites. All you can control is how well you can pack the item. Use loads is bubble wrap so even when they mishandle it the inner package remains undamaged.

I have sent via speed post 1yr back.
Just place phone in original box. Wrap it tight.
Take a big box and place some old clothes etc to act as cushion and mention it as something else.
I mentioned it as clothes and cost will also be very low
Like 150rs only

I used to this earlier, and with Indiapost I don’t expect much scrutiny
