I wonder why financial institutions are not much into C2C basis when it's the easiest and fastest way of making a customer.
And adding to it what surprises me more is that I hold a civil score of 821 with 4yrs of aged HDFC CC history all timely payments till date.
If HDFC would have not offered me CC 4yrs back without any income and ITR proof I would have been devoid of any CC till date so HDFC undoubtedly becomes my fav Bank in many terms.

Hdfc offered me a card in 2011 without any income proof. Only driving licence was verified. My first card issued by them.

HDFC is a generous financial institution. I have taken many financial services from HDFC and have been quite satisfied with all of them. No wonder why it's a top private bank.

I called them to close the card. They upgraded the card to world safari instead of shoprite.
It's not LTF.  First year free and later charges.

Will the "upgrade" create a new account credit account in CIBIL (and close the older one), or will it continue on the same credit account ?

One of my card was upgraded by one of my bank, but do not see old card account in closed accounts in cibil. It was my first card and it is showing as the oldest and active account with upgraded card. So yes it will not create a new account for upgraded card but carry old account when it was started.

I confirmed with them that no new account will be credited in credit report 

Don’t call RBL and upgrade for different card other than shoprite. Your edition cash will be purged. So better get LTF and convert edition cash to real money instead of zomato credits . I have 5k edition cash

Send an upgrade request for world safari card. Request got accepted & will receive FYF.

Safari card usp is one of there top card with zero forex. 10 times ore useful than shop rite

Today conversion to shoprite was expected. Does any dimer received sms, mail? Card controls have been removed from the zomato application.

Strange. My edition classic card stopped showing in the app today. Shows no credit card available.
