Samsung Galaxy F62 - my review after using it for a month

Well, I am quite fond of trying out phones and keep changing them often. Having used Samsung's Galaxy S21+ for over 3 weeks and being unhappy with the terrible heating issues of Exynos flagship processor, felt no point in paying a hefty premium if the phone heats up like that. Moved on and got a mid range Galaxy F62 at Rs. 14000 on Samsung Corporate website. Here is my review after using it for almost a month. Mind you, most comparisons would be with my previous mid range phone that I held in parallel with S21+, Realme X7, for about 3 months now. Design - mediocre at best. The back is super glossy and a fingerprint, smudge and scratch magnet. I love using my phones without a case but this demanded one. I had to get a skin from GadgetShieldz to protect the back from scratches. They should have opted for a matte plastic back which is lot more robust and practical. Form - terrible! I do understand it has a 7000 mAh battery but a phone this heavy, imbalanced in terms of weight distribution and thick is not easily usable. Wish it were to have compromised a bit on battery capacity and phone were sleeker. Build - Feels quite solid in hand and dense. Even though it sports a glossy plastic rail and a plastic back, the device still feels quite premium in hand. Battery life - great but expected better. Don't get me wrong, the 7000 mAh battery is a monster but it definitely doesn't last as long as one would expect it to last. It's got to do with optimisation is what I presume. Charging speed - a paltry 25w charger combined with 7000 mAh battery is a nightmare. Just like what Apple does by providing a 5W charger and 2500 odd mAh battery. Takes around 2 hours to charge the phone up fully which is painstakingly slow by today's standards. Display - Damn good! I think one of the most compelling and selling points is the gorgeous display. It's no 120 hz refresh rate or 90 hz refresh rate but the peak brightness, punch colours and deep blacks are more than enough to convince the premium feel display gives. Having used a Realme X7 which sports an AMOLED too, it's just no match to the display on F62. The always on display is one feature I love to use on AMOLED screens. The one on Samsung's phones is quite minimal but still great to have. Heating issues - one point that most reviewers skip. Sad! On normal usage the phone doesn't heat up quite a lot but even minimum push in terms of small games makes the phone heat up. The most inconvenient part is that the phones heats up in the top and in the front portion near the speaker grill. This makes it inconvenient to take calls. Also, while charging, the first 30% to 40% heats the phone a lot! Anyways, this is something we got to live with when its an Exynos processor we are dealing with. The heating issues on S21+ were lot more terrible though. Speakers - the dual audio speakers combined are louder and crispier than the ones on realme X7 but each speaker alone isn't all that loud. Can be better but I would anyday prefer such stereo speakers over one loud mono speaker Samsung Pay - good to have but not one that I use. It misses Samsung Pay using MST so can't use it on swipe machines like the good old Samsung flagships used to support. Can use it only on NFC PoS systems Cameras - It's been a great experience at this price range and lot better than the one on Realme X7. Thanks to all the covid constraints, I haven't really got a chance to get out and test the camera exhaustively Software - truth be told, I love Samsung's one UI! Apart from OnePlus's oxygen OS I find One UI to be the next best. The OS is so well thought through, especially for large devices that we get to use lately. Added to that, Samsung's dedication for better software updates than many other brands makes it a huge positive. Virtual assistant - I keep pondering and breaking my head unable to understand why Samsung is so fond of digging it's own grave with a half baked Bixby experience. Please ditch it and switch to Google's assistant. I wish the power button can be repurposed to invoke google assistant, would make life so much easy! Performance - Last but not the least. The performance is much better than on realme X7 but one thing that kills the fun is heating issues when the device is pushed. What's the point of having a good processor when you can't make good use of it? Wish F62 had a Snapdragon processor as well just like M51 and M42 have. Overall, it's a good device to have at 14k but not one that's worth enough to spend 22k to 25k on (the actual price). I even got a complementary accidental and liquid damage insurance + timesprime membership (yet to receive) with the device which makes it a great deal overall.

Why did u go again with Exynos processor, u were aware of heating issues

The exynos 9825 on F62 is lot better than exynos 2100 on s21+ with respect to thermal management

Moreover, the price was very compelling and couldn’t find a better device at this price.

Samsung heavily banking on AMOLED displays and larger batteries to sell their Mid-range devices
+ i do agree with OneUI getting better over the years but they were never able to really fix the heating issues with Exynos chips.. hopefully something changes with their Next-Gen Exynos chips w/ AMD GPUs

What do you mean by motherboard issues?

Being wary of the upgrades frying motherboards, I have not upgraded by f62 from several months.

Despite not updating the os, I noticed auto restart issues on the several times in past couple of months.
