The Indian smartphone market might not be ready for foldable phones as of now, but if you just look at the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 as a piece of tech, you would understand how unique, useful, and interesting it is. And just like you, I am a normal user too, and getting a phone worth ₹1,50,000 or more is still a dream for me. Moreover, we may not be able to use this device to its fullest, which would be a waste of money in the true sense.

But do you know that there's a specific market segment that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 targets? Nope, it isn't the gaming or tablet segment. But if you look at businessmen, stock traders, research analysts, and more such people, you would see them relying on laptops and tablets for their work. So wouldn't it help them to get a device with a smaller form factor and similar/better features that they can carry around easily? That is where the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes in. It would help someone easily look at and read charts, and graphs on a bigger display than a normal smartphone.  Also with Android 12L and other customizations in the Samsung One UI especially for the Fold 4, it is way too different than the smartphones that we use daily.

As much as I appreciate the concept of a foldable phone, there are two categories that one needs to consider

1. Someone aiming at better productivity on a larger screen - Ex: fold series

2. Someone aiming at owning a compact device with a normal size screen - Ex: flip phones

I personally am more enticed towards flip phones that provide a compact form factor. I find the fold phones to neither serve the purpose of a proper phone nor a proper tablet just yet. Samsung is doing the best job in terms of customising the UI and usability that caters better for larger screens but a long way to go.

Was really intending to opt for Flip 4 recently but reading reviews about screens failing in less than 2 months from multiple users shrugged me away from taking the leap. Add to that, Samsung consistently blaming users that it’s because of a physical damage caused to the device that led to screen failing.

Unless the hardware on the foldable phones get more reliable and the software optimises to take full advantage of a foldable screen, can’t really see myself using one yet.

Agreed!!
These foldables and flip phones are really fragile and do not even come with any dust resistance. Even Samsung won't care for their users if their phones get damaged due to the same.
But if someone plans on buying such devices in India, or even in other countries, these two phones are by far the best ones...though this tech would take some time to be as user-friendly as our normal mobile phones.
Thanks a lot for your input😄
