TLDR: Use Signal Messenger instead of Whatsapp as Whatsapp leaks data and being e2e encrypted does not help with the Whatsapp's flaw.

Do not share sensitive documents, photos, etc via Whatsapp. One major flaw that Whatsapp has is that when attachments are downloaded for viewing it gets saved in phone's storage which lead to other app getting access to those documents, photos and attachments. One can verify it with the fact that when one downloads a photo or video from a Whatsapp chat it can be viewed in phone's gallery app or other video player like VLC if installed. This is what creates a major issue with regards to sensitive attachments.

Signal is different in this regards as signal does not save any attachment to your device's storage directly, if you receive a photo/pdf/video on Signal you can only view that photo or video or pdf via signal app and your gallery or file manager or other apps will not have access to those attachment. To view those photos, videos, etc to file manager or gallery app you have to chose to do so and which is more often than not is not required because why would you want to fill your gallery with good morning, good night photos.

Also One fact that I believe almost everyone hopefully already knows that even Whatsapp uses Signal protocol for its e2e encryption and recently Google too has said that they will also use Signal Protocol for e2e encryption in RCS. Hence, when it comes to e2e encryption in messaging Signal certainly is a gold standard. Unfortunately all other company stores metadata to sell you to advertisers, but Signal doesn't store any metadata at all, while all other are for-profit companies Signal is run by Signal Foundation which is a non-profit with an objective to further cause of privacy and data protection.
Signal has all the good thing of whatsapp without facebook collecting any data or other apps on your phone getting access to your private media.
