Dear all, currently I am serving notice period. I will be joining new co by 21 April. but suddenly this covid-19 outbreak happened. So , as far my New job is concerned , whether my new employer will think to not to appoint anyone or reject the candidates who are selected to join in co ? whether he have right to cancel appointment though I have Offer letter from new employer ? what legal options available to me , whether I can claim 3/6 months compansation from them for rejecting me after accepting the job offer ?
in pharma sector this happened .
kindly help accordingly.

I think we will not have option to claim anything. We may have option to retain in the same company.
I am in the same situation. I have joining on 18th June.
But I have also heard cases where people have completed joining formalities online and they have been assigned some online courses which they can complete till this lockdown ends. This happened in CTS.
If your new employer wants to cancel the appointment, you may request politely that your joining date be deferred until lockdown ends.
What will be ideal request?
Nowadays most of the companies are onboarding people online like ours.
check with them if they can.
Pharma sector wont be affected as much as others. So your new job might still be safe.
My cousin called me yesterday night to discuss about similar concern. He got into a new job in company Y, served resignation in his current company X and is currently in notice period. Having a good relation with his senior manager he called my cousin yesterday informing that his current company X will be implementing a rule this week wherein employees who applied for resignation will not have any option of revoking it if needed and they will have to leave the organisation. Although the company Y he would be moving to is one of the big 4 consulting companies as well he has been advised to stick to his current company X itself considering the scenario in the market.
I advised him to stick to his current company as well as the role he would be moving into in company Y isn’t a highly critical resource either and can be skipped for the time being. Apart from that it’s a high paying role so the firm would think twice to honour the joining letter and might eventually cut down on that role as well.
Do think for yourself. No one can give you a definitive advice right now, it’s a tradeoff between higher pay and new job vs. compromised pay and peace of mind.
Talk about timing. Just as I typed this comment I got a message from my cousin informing about he revoking his current resignation.
I am also on same boat
Serving notice here
And also don’t want to continue in my current company
Same situation with me.
I had to join on 1st of April but that did not happened.
I don’t know what will be the situation after this lockdown.
I had completed my notice period before 22nd janta curfew.
