Airtel has silently added  "Static IP Fee’ in this months fiber broadband bill. Never asked for this service. Just sent mail to 121 and will follow up with grievance officer if needed. Be alert with your Airtel broadband bill.

Wt is static IP ?
Its an public IP address assigned to your router by your ISP that NEVER CHANGES. Its useful for situations where your computer acts like a file-sharing server, media server for sharing videos/shows/audio etc. where you or any other user can connect to your computer with ease. If your internet has dynamic IP set, your IP address keeps changing at regular intervals or every time the router connects/disconnects to the internet.

Customer care ([email protected]) credited back the static ip fees (Rs. 199/- + GST of 18%) and sent technician to disable. Technician checked and said static ip is not enabled only.

For your knowledge(& to get an idea about how the technical help level usually is in Indian ISPs), public static ip is only assigned at ISP level while the static IP setting you see in your modem/router is only applicable for your local network(if you forcefully assign a public static ip in your modem/router settings then most likely the net connection won’t even work).

Totally chor behavior. They should at least ask if you want static IP or are fine with dynamic.
