Stick to old style models from Shanta or Elgi like suggested above.

Don’t go for the flashy table top models, they don’t grind properly.

Yup, Elgi is recommended. Been using it in my family for 5 years

Basically, the stone shd be heavy enough to crush whatever you are grinding properly & easily ie with little effort.. the small table top models are not heavy enough for the job.

Those heavy tilting types are better suited for making all kinds of batter / pastes etc. We have one useless table top model at home which is not as effective as the bigger tilting model. Had bought it when the old one stopped working.. it was a disaster after due to the experience with the old one.. so got the old one fixed – motor belt change, the old was back to its normal working.

Just googled for a picture..

Check offline to understand the difference in shape & weight of the grinding stone in the table-top/light models and the heavier tilt types.

thank you for sharing all those points and experience.
it seems, those not having professional requirements or not connoisseurs can make do with a good mixxie (blender) itself.https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

a few old ones witg heavy duty 450-500w motors even survived repeated use for grinding, powdering ‘dangerous’ stuff like refined sugar, rock salts (and even wet batter for bhakshalu/oligalu, obbattu, puran poli).

thanks again. i suppose any decent stone type belted ones would last a decade or so and initial cost 5500-7000 minimum

@dealshunter how has been your experience with the one you bought https://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/topic...

exactly which model, make (just Kailash is brandname?) was it and Metro as in the wholesale chain?
which location, if you don’t mind.

unless big homes and kitchen users are okay adjusting, it gets difficult to have all appliances at satisfactory location.
at times, even oven and refrigerator are seen outside kitchen (open kitchen layout)
so having larger appliances in kitchen is only viable for frequent use and depends on spaces.
