Don't take multi vitamins without doctor's advice , especially for aged people. Since over dosage of good things may also turn as bad thing with more side effects.

For  iron  deficiency  eat  Good quality  Desi Spinach  daily  or alternate  days  & see the difference.

Iron  capsules  cause allergies , stomach  cramps  , nausea  , etc  to many in general .

Yes. Previously higher incidence of  cancers had been observed upon longterm consumption multivitamins & other dietary supplements and recently it was found that  "vitamin C and other antioxidants can promote the formation of new blood vessels - A MAJOR STEP IN DEVELOPMENT OF CANCERS".

I'd suggest to do a full body checkup first. This is the primary, unmissable step!

And only then, based on reports of whatever deficiency identified of whatever vitamins etc., you have 2 options:

1. If deficiency is severe, then take those supplements.
2. If deficiency is not severe, meaning its borderline or slightly below the range, go for natural foods that can help you cover that deficiency.

Apart from that new study which says excessive vitamin supplements can pave path for cancer, it is already very well known that 'excess of anything is bad'. And even if you pop more than required vitamins, not all vitamins are kept stored by the body, they're thrown out by liver just like we ingest them. So why put extra load on liver for no reason? Overall its more likely to either cause some harm in long term or be useless altogether in short term. So avoid that.
