The Gift should be surprising and shocking to the recipient, right?
You can’t surprise anyone with gifts anymore.
The expectations of people on what they want to receive as gifts have exceeded the affordability of the gifter.
Even someone who have never seen a touchscreen phone is expecting to be gifted an iphone. Anything below their expectation has no value to the recipient.
Here is a first hand experience, someone I knew had their television broken, I had a spare 14 inch CRT which i lend to them so they can continue watching their evening soaps while their tv was getting repaired. Later I released whenever they watch this 14" tv, they keep their curtains closed, came to know they didn’t want their neighbors to know they are now watching on a small screen tv.
Nowadays no matter what you gift, it ends up below the receivers expectations. If you planning to gift someone something, ask them what they need before you surprise them with invaluable gifts.
