my brother gave aadhar otp online to some bank staff for idfc wow credit card application. they said 10000 fd has to be made from his hdfc bank account and they asked him to share his upi id. then he got payment request . he proceeded but payment failed. he stopped process.

they came to his office for credit card. not sure whether they were bank staff or not.

now he fear that any misuse can be done due to aadhar details , pan card details shared on whatsapp to them.

do otp given could still harm now.

what should he do avoid any fraud or misuse. pls help

It is ironic that ppl are not willing to spend 1200 per year on paid cibil subscription which can save from possible financial frauds of lakhs as well as save privacy/unwanted loan card calls headache etc but will buy a 1k loot deal product here every few months even if they don't really need it.

nothing to worry, ask him to lock biometrics

keep a watch on cibil, any new SMS, email related to account opening etc

move hdfc balance elsewhere for few days

If OTP was shared on phone to an unknown phone number and not at the branch, it may be risky. The content of the UPI payment request may indicate whether it was from IDFC or any 3rd party for fraudulent transaction. Some message directly from IDFC should come on registered mobile for credit card application and not just aadhar OTP.

The risk is that they can download a copy of your aadhar card using the OTP and may also change demographic details online

Ask him to transfer his balance to another account.

Aadhaar OTP is only for UIDAI site, not for banking transactions. If the payment request he accepted would have been successful then their may have been a bigger risk of validation of automatic mandate for future deductions. Try to share details of the sms received for UPI payment. Whether it was from IDFC or not?

sharing aadhar otp without knowing the cause might be very risky, someone might create some loan/account and do fraud from that and you will be liable.

Or someone can use that otp to be you, since aadhar otp is basically giving Authorization as you. As you (with aadhar otp), nowadays someone can access anything digital or physical belonging to you (like bank account, money debit, take loan, or anything more serious)

Never ever never share otp, especially aadhar otp to anyone without knowing the actual reason of that otp generation.

There is nothing free in this world, in case of free cibil the cost paid is in the form of your data which you consent to be used by whichever provider/service/app you are getting free cibil score from. Of course if you don't care about this & don't want real time updates in your cibil report then no issue.

what are you getting at the whole internet is not free even after you pay for it? there are other ways you can login with axis bank and you will get cibil for free too no pre-requirments.

Indeed the whole internet is not free. You pay in the form of your time, mental peace & privacy unless you think your time/mental peace/privacy has no value. many here used to check cibil every month for free via HDFC cibil partnership page(just like this axis link) & all of them(incl myself) used to regularly get calls for hdfc cc & various loans from hdfc/their 3rd party agents. It seems like you missed my point, I don't have any issue with "free cibil reports" but why paid cibil subscription is in every way better & worth the money you pay for it.
