Tata Nexon EV 2023 LR (Long Range) REVIEW after driving it for around 150 km in Pune City, Highway and Ghats.

Highlights

- Excellent driving dynamics that includes the handling, braking, bodyroll & stability. Probably because of the battery weight, 190 mm ground clearance of LR variant and 4 disc brakes. Steering weight is adequate for the City & Highway drives. Cabin felt airy during the drive because of the good glass area & light grey interiors.

- Features like 360 deg camera, front camera with adaptive guidelines, front sensors, ventilated seats, 45w charging on offer were really helpful during the drive. Helped me to charge my action camera on the go.

- Seat comfort & bolstering was great at the front & back. I didn’t get any kind of fatigue after the drive.

- Insulation felt like a luxury car, pin drop silence until I switched on my fav playlist via Apple Car Play on 8+1 speakers/subwoofer by JBL & infotainment by Harman.

- Exterior Build quality felt class leading & with 6 airbags on offer, expecting this car to retain the safety tag of 5 stars in BNCAP. Paint felt thick & neat too with a fine control on Orange Peel. I liked how Tata gave extra rubber beading at Sunroof so that no screws are visible & screws are covered under sun flaps as well.

- It’s a head turner & everyone was having a second look at the car including luxury car owners. I was surrounded by half a dozen people for pictures of the car during a tea break. Basically because of the connected LED lights at the front & back, Multiple digital screens & electronic logo panel for the steering.

- 0-100 kmph in 8.9 sec (LR) and range of 465 km & 325 km on offer with charging time of 56 min (10-80%) with on road DC charger and 6/4.3 hours through AC home charger (7.2 kW) for two different batteries.

- 3 Regen levels are handy to charge your battery on the go from wheels via paddle shifters. I drove in ‘City’ mode with L1 regen mode. Range was 360 when I started with 100% battery and was 240 (67% battery) when I left the car after 150 km drive & shooting a video too with lights on. AC & ventilated seats were on throughout the drive.

Areas of improvement

- Fit & finish felt excellent overall inside out but at few areas rubber beading uniformness could be improved. In some cars it was perfect but in some it was uneven at some places.

- The 45w usb charging point space is very congested & it will be a task to insert usb cable there

- Ventilated seat button is on side & you need to take your eyes off driving to change the levels

- Piano finish materials on the steering, AC panel & grab handles are fingerprint magnet. Keep a microfibre cloth handy. AC units of temp & fan speed are displayed at 12” screen, would be better if it was there at the AC panel itself.

- Steering mounted buttons are a little too high & prude at the sides that sometimes you might accidentally press them during the drive. Depends on person to person though.

- Tata needs to up their service game with such a high tech car throughout India for better after sales experience.

Expected price: 17.50 to 20.50 lacs for LR and 1.70 lacs lesser for MR (medium range)

Looks nice, but i am not ok with few options.

My view :

Battery from china,

Motor from china

Sensors from china,

Instrument cluster and few other electronics like headlight LED, backlight items too from china

Indian brand with 80% parts from china (Battery + motor is main), i think tyre/seats/body and few things only from india.

Volvo electric car - Pure chinese car company (Yes owned by chinese, dont shock )

Tata nexon - from Pure indian company, but most parts from chinese with low tech

offtopic:

hope they produce battery/motor in india soon atleast.

Would you like to share what would be an alternative without increasing cost. The situation you are describing whose fault it is that India doesn't have strong cost effective manufacturing hubs like China, especially in electronics component manufacturing. Just because something's is made in china doesnt always mean it's Bad.

we're feeding directly to their GDP instead of us, also their military

cost reduction thing is well known by giant TATA, but they dont want to do now, but mahindra is doing atleast in manufacturing and battery from LG chem and going to launch own joint venture batery factory soon.

Have you ever bought any battery from "India's" biggest battery company "DuraCell"?? If you have, check the batteries & the box also.

There is no such thing (& never will) like "Made in India Battery"....Having "Desi" in the username will not change the fact, that India is an incompetent country, when making electronic parts or devices are concerned.

Xiaomi writes Make In India on the box & advertise themselves as "India's Biggest Smartphone brand" even though all the parts are manufactured in China... Indians will buy every Chinese item if the box of the product mentions Make In India, lol.
