For you it is a joke or fun thing.
But not for someone who has gone through the trauma.
[We (society) makes such remarks or reduces the issue to a joke.. for both genders also.]
That, as a society, we are insensitive to sexual misconduct or crimes... or even alleged sexual crimes.. goes to show where we are.
In other countries, there are dedicated registries of 'sex offenders' and any recruiter who is doing any back checks.. HAS TO look up the name of the prospective candidate there, on that register too.
Vis-à-vis here, we idolise sex offenders.
They could be movie stars or otherwise powerful, well connected people.
We ridicule the victim or make light of the situation.
A-list (married) celebrities (male actor) can suddenly pick up his co-star.. while on stage, promoting their useless movie
... and swirl her in the air/ with his arms.. despite being aware that her modesty is at stake... if there are cameras and she is wearing a skirt.
This is not about judging or berating you or anyone else here.
But facts are, we as a society.. do not any longer care.
We as a society, do not correctly choose our representatives. The so called representatives of the people are actually unconcerned with what is happening to the society. Nor ever really want to work for the society, create laws or have them enforced.
The charade they (the uncouth representatives) put up.. is just to earn brownie points.. and not to actually make any difference.
The objective is prop themselves up, and if any societal changes are effected (by the so called representatives).. then too.. it merely is a by-product. And not the main objective of those buggers.
That way, at-least so much money, time, other resources are not wasted in the name of 'mega elections' in countries like Российская Федерация, 中华人民共和国, 조선민주주의인민공화국 or other authoritarian regimes.
We (the people of... alleged fully functional democracies) also get the short end of the stick and so do the people in these countries.
But at-least they do not waste truck loads, train loads of money on sham elections.
Also, if the so called 'authoritarian regimes' are nested comfortably in the cocoon that they would not be overthrown, then (despite the corruption) I feel, they still have a better chance of not playing to the gallery and execute some longer term plans.. or at-least have a vision (for 40 years, 50 years, 100 years)... instead of 'playing' the 5-5 year 'game'.
