Is there any cancellation charges on cancelling Tatkal waiting list tickets (TQWL).
For normal bookings it is 120, but for this?

Should I cancel myself or will they cancel from their end and initiate full refund except conv. charges?

Yes - ₹60 for Sleeper Class
You can cancel it by yourself and the refund would be the same whether the cancellation is done automatically or by yourself.

Thanks brother.

This is absolute loot for Railways. 60₹ for cancelling TQWL tickets which even they know that it wouldn't get confirmed.

After chart preparation (4-5hrs before departure) TQWL might get confirmed. If it gets confirmed then one cannot cancel & no refund is applicable. Confirmation message comes in SMS first and may not be seen at IRCTC app/website immediately.

So decide to keep or cancel accordingly.

Thing is without that ₹60 charge in WL/RAC/TQWL, everyone would book 2-3 tickets in alternate trains even when they know it's gonna not confirm as they would get full refund anyway that's why they take it

Now its true in reality tatkal tickets r gone in 1min and before u know it, u r in TQWL list and ur ₹60 gone with ur travel plan

If they dnt take cancelling charges. Then everyone will book and then resell those tickets. U should not book when it was TQWL

You can opt not to generate tickets , , so ticket won't get allocated if berths is not confirmed amount 60 rupes will be saved.

Amount will get deducted and refund will be as per t&c

@Pikachu it was not TQWL when I booked. At 11.02 it showed 46 tickets were available. So I went ahead and booked.

There is a delay of 20-30 secs in showing actual tickets.. And with dalas using different type of softwares and hacks.. It hardly takes 2-3 second for a ticket to book

Maybe multiple passenger on same ticket. As identity of only person to be verified if bought online.

But offline purchased ticket doesn't require identity verification by TTE so here also scope for touts

There are many agents that do so. I remember in pre covid time, in howrah station i found few agents to sell confirmed tickets. Also in many trains tt only check the passenger is present or not. No verification is done.
