i got my lost iphone some 3-4 years back
i had made some settings where phone gets locked and the person trying to open the phones gets message - that person called me and i got my phone back (Iphone 6 it was)
Guys,
How do we trace a mobile/tab (both android and ios) which is lost/stolen with sim card removed and factory reset. Is there a way to simply trace it without taking help of police? If yes what are the apps and settings to be done before we lose phone which will help to do so. I know there are some apps like lost and found , cell tracker etc. but do they help if phone is reset by expert thieves?
This is something I was never able to perfectly figure out and thought may be helpful to many. Please tag any tech/mobile experts.

Better to complain first for safety and reference any further misuse of any illegal activities.

Make sure Location is set to on on your devices (Most of the people turn off it either for privacy sake or for battery)

I understand but recovery rate by police is far low.. the main aim of this post is recovering the device. Need to know if there are any other ways of recovering device apart from imei tracking by police.

Stolen iphones can't be reused nowadays, stolen iphones are only disassembled to sell parts as spare. Among android devices, except for high end samsung Galaxy S series models, rest are simply formatted/unlocked using chinese tools/software leaked from manufacturers service centres replaced with new rom/imei even(if possible) & then resold.

Yeah exactly this what is exactly happening I think. So there is no way to set a trap or trace your phone as soon as it is connected to computer then.
One of my friend lost his oneplus phone recently and even after having Find my phone settings and some apps couldn't able to trace it back.
Its really bad that after so much of tech advancement.. we couldn't trace back a costly mobile. Imagine if you lose a mobile worth 50k plus.
sunnydurga wrote:The stolen phone can be traced but the cost of tracing it may end up costing more than the phone value itself hence such options not used unless it is a vip's phone or some national security issue. At least in case of iphones(& samsung galaxy S series top models) you get the consolation that nobody will again be using your stolen phone.Yeah exactly this what is exactly happening I think. Find my phone is just a gimmick don't work when phone switched off/Location off
All u can do is erase data which even thief will be doing once he gets his hands on phone

If you are asking for stolen mobile being reset.
Disable developer tools and make sure USB debugging is off..( if the mobile is on original and updated software from Manufacturer aka, No custom ROM installed)
This can stop reset to an extent. Rest I cant comment much on pirated software which can unlock any mobile anytime.
And most of the times, stolen phones are used for parts like screen, other valuable parts except for motherboard which is kind of brains to mobile.
