Train Experience: If we miss our train, and we try to catch it from the next station which is 2 hrs away, then will we be entitled to our seats?

We want to reach Station C.

The same train departs from Station A at 7 am and B at 9 am and these are two options that we want to keep for boarding the train. We will decide which station to catch the train one day before the journey

So want to reserve our ticket from Station A itself so that if we decide to board from B we still use our full ticket.

But I have heard that TTE has the authority to re allocate our seats to someone with waiting ticket if we don’t show up.

Can someone pls share their knowledge or experience in this matter. Thanks

Book from A and choose boarding station B , you can board B surely and since it’s booked from A it will be available as well to you.

Book ticket from Station A to Station C.

Boarding station can be changed ONLY ONCE and u can choose any inbetween stations.
Boarding change can be done only till chart preparation.

literally you can board anywhere between source & destination as long as you have valid ticket.

Not anywhere bro.. its upto TTE. As per my experience in most cases they wait for you to show up until next one station as passengers may board different coach if they reach station at the last moment.

After that they mark you as absent and can allot your berth to other RAC/WL passenger. In the above scenario OP’s best bet is to do what @rockingneo suggested.

Yes, if u select boarding station as A and the. Don’t come within 2-3 stations of boarding station, TTE can allocate it to someone else and mark you as absent. You will be able to file tdr and get some refund as well.

Just FYI, Boarding station and reservation from station can be different. And TTE checks based on boarding station only

You’re right bro

As @rockingneo suggested, if we book ticket from Station A quota and put boarding as Station B (so that TTE doesn’t reallocate) can we still board at A?

Pehli baar train mai safar karoge kya bhai? If yes then relax a bit , most of the times TTE doesn’t even come to check the tickets till train has started for 5-6 hours. Even if u miss your train you can catch it from anywhere, no issues. Will recommend to stay clear of the chai , coffee sellers that come in trains , their chai isn’t hygienic. Don’t keep your value like phone chargers etc outside your bag or pocket when you go to sleep at night. Have a happy and safe journey.

TTE missuses their power. Even they used to allocate some illiterate & old person’s confirmed berth to someone else and even about to fine that genuine ticket holder.

Later my friend and some fellow young traveller checked the ticket [booked on RAC] current status & the same was confirmed & Helped him to get his seat.

@jain01010199

  • By default, your boarding point will be station A. Before chart generation, you can change your boarding point to any station between A to Z. The chart gets prepared a few hours before boarding the train from its origin.
  • Boarding can be done only once, and it’s irreversible.
  • Once you board, you will lose all rights to travel from the original destination. Technically your ticket is now from B to Z.
  • If you fail to show up at your seat for station/stations(I am not sure with the number of stations), TTE has the right to report your seat as empty, and he can assign your seat to any asking passenger.
  • If you’re in an emergency and cannot decide before chart generation, you may board to B and travel from A to B standing. Again, you’re not legally traveling, but you have a valid ticket from the next station, and most of the time, TTE understands this problem mutually.

According to rule , TTE waits for 2-3 station or 50-100 kms (look for rule-book) from boarding station / point .. after that marks you absent and re-allocate the seat to some RAC / wait listed passenger .

Rule ka toh pata nahin but I have seen most of the people ( including me) boarding trains from Mathura (for Mumbai) book tickets from (source)Delhi to Mumbai because we get confirmed quota tickets and no TTE ever complained. They just ask aap Mathura pe aaye kya, hum bol dete hein haan. They tick on their charts, bas 😃

When I was once traveling by train i chatted with a TTE, about the filling of empty seats/absent passengers seats. he told me that as per rule if a passenger booked a ticket form A station and boarding also same he can board from any station until the next junction station. i.e., if one booked a ticket from A station the next junction station is D then the passenger can board from any of the three stations(A,B,C) whatever maybe the boarding point and the distance also.

Upto three stations, TTE will wait. Then your seat Will be alloted to others.

Hours prior the chart is prepared, you’ll have the option to change boarding point.

Best option is to change Boarding online. TTE do wait till 2 stations but if its long distance between stations he might not thinking none gonna come that far. So change it online.

back in 2010, i booked from Bangalore and boarded from same station but sat with frnd in a different coach for an hour or so.. when tte came for checking, he told me that since I was not in my seat for 2 stations, he assigned to someone else… I travelled standing for next few hrs !!! Only after some 6 hours or so, another tte gave me a berth else where after seeing my troubles.. !!! Memorable night for me grinning joy

Hi. I need to travel from B to D (route A -> B -> C -> D ) and need to board a train that travels from A to D (however it doesn't stop at B), so I catch the train at C. My question is if I book a ticket from A->D and change the boarding station to C, can I use the same ticket to travel on another train from B to C (say an hour ago)?

you cant travel in any other train but by chance if there is a technical stop on B then you can board the train you booked without any problems
