I recently trying to book ticket for my mom but it was rlwl wait list which i was not sure will confirm or not so , just by chance i click on senior citizen quota and there 60 seats in available status and a pop up showing for lower berth/senior citizen quota seat female aged 45+ and male 60+ will be eligible …
Luckily my mom at 46 so got confirmed ticket ✌️✌️
So try this things for easy confirmed tickets …
I think irctc change female age from 58 to 45 now this is good

Try on Amazon there showing directly on result page, or IRCTC website you should change quota from general to lower seat/sr. Citizen where you put boarding and dropping stations
This is a feature from IRCTC. I’m using it from quite some time and I’m sure most here are using it. On and off media will write it as news, now I understand the need for it.

58 years for female was min criteria in past …
But now it reduce to 45 years min age for female if want to book under senior citizen quota seat …
Do we need senior citizen card??
Like my grand father has a senior citizen card which he shows at railway counter everytime when he book tickets.
12 berths for ladies in every coach is there since many years. 2-3 years ago lower berth quota was added within this quota. one can book berth for even a woman aged below 45 but without chances of lower berth which depends upon availabilty.
Not in all trains.
Many trains running in Tamilnadu was having only 6 berths under Ladies quota and likely it was in Coach S4. Booked many times in many trains. 2 Lower, 2 Middle and 2 Upper in same place.
We can also book Male passenger till the age of 11 under this quota. (Half ticket or full ticket both will apply)..
Bro this is there for more than 3 years to my knowledge.
the Condtion is
For Male, he should be 60 or above to get both seat and discount under this quota
For Ladies, she should be 45 or more to get only seat / 58 or above to get both seat and discount.
Since the Senior citizen discount has been removed, Male and Female age 60 and 45 above is enough.
Also note the Discount for Male is 40 pct and Female is 50 pct under the senior citizen quota earlier.

Are tatkal seats spread all over the train or some seats in a single coach is reserved for that?
Also, LOWER BERTH/Sr. CITIZEN Quota seats are not/never side (lower) berths, right?
Tatkal seats will have separate coach in SL and 2S as well some seats in reserve coaches also for 2S, SL and AC coaches.
Mostly it will be S1 and S2 in sleeper coaches.
Only Lower berth Seats will be allocated in senior citizen quota. No side lower.
Where is the option for senior quota? I did not see that option after new UI/Website?
