I'm looking to get the cheapest possible RuPay Select debit card since my Amazon Prime membership has expired and I need it as soon as possible.
I was earlier looking to get PNB RuPay Select debit card but when I found that w.e.f. 5th June, 2023, annual charges has been increase from Rs. 500 + 18% GST to Rs. 750 + 18% GST, I'm not chasing it anymore.
Next option available for me is, change my Bank of Baroda Advantage Savings Account (Rs. 2k MAB) to Super Savings Account (Rs. 20k MAB) or Professional Savings Account (Rs. 25k MAB) and avail RuPay Select debit card as FYF and from second year onwards for Rs. 500 + 18% GST.
Another one is, opening a savings account with Union Bank of India which currently offers RuPay Select DC at lowest possible price for annual charge of Rs. 400 + 18% GST. My query is, which savings account variant should be opened to get the DC as from the following link, I can see only high MAB requirement account variants (Rs. 1 lac or more) show RuPay Select DC is available. Someone who has any experience with this, can throw some light on this please?

Union Bank has updated its systems and only High Variant accounts are given option to get Higher variant Cards, ex: normal accounts get only Classic cards, and 15K accounts get Platinum cards option in their system(Personalised cards which cime with ur name on card).
If you can get instant cards(no name), you can take for any account.
So you may need to find a branch which has instant cards of Select variant and get it attached to ur account.
PS: Saying this from my experience, but may vary with others.

Some bank branches have non-personalized means non active debit card, which they issue and attach to your account hand to hand on your visit to branch

Yes, instant kit with a debit card which has some "Account Holder" or some random number written in place of your name.

also, one more question, in case there's insta kit available, they can issue RuPay Select DC with 1k MAB account, right? I guess the code is SBGEN for that account.

I recently opened an SB account of 1K MAB and got a generic Visa DC instead of Rupay DC.
satraghav wrote:correct, that's the normal process to issue Visa Classic DC for SBGEN (Rs. 1k MAB) account but I'll try to ask for availability of insta kit having RuPay Select DC beforehand opening the savings account, else I won't even open it.I recently opened an SB account of 1K MAB and got a generic Visa DC instead of Rupay DC.

As far as I know and heard from an employee that it should be done..

you should've opened the kit right there in front of the bank official who said this and threatened to close the account since there's no closure charges involved if account is closed within 14 days of opening for most of the banks
my thumb rule with bank people now is, I'm more knowledgeable than them at any given point of time and for that very reason I always do my homework before reaching out to them 😬
BTW how to get an Amazon Prime subscription from Rupay Select DC? @sahil1033 @wackophant

Any advantages of Baroda Super Savings Account? Apart from rupay debit card?
skyrules333986 wrote:thanks a lot for this clarity and it seems like you work at the bank ... can you please clarify a thing for me?
given the fact that you've shared this list, is there any possibility to get RuPay Select DC with SBGEN account type? any way or trick?
even if insta kit is available, then also it can't be issued against SBGEN account?

Doesnt seem like many benefits then.
For a mere 2k MAB, you get a FREE virtual RuPay Platinum DC, online account opening and no other charges like SMS charges, what more can you ask for?
PNB used to offer RuPay Platinum & Select DC at one of the lowest fee but now even they've increased the fee, check here : https://www.desidime.com/discussions/pnb-hikes-...

System level check has been introduced now, cards can only be issued against schemes as mentioned. If you only want select benefits, open and fund HNI account, get select card, close account within 14 days without any charges.

No no, their normal savings account is decent. I thought you were talking about Baroda Super Savings Account where the minimum balance is 20k.
skyrules333986 wrote:hmm ... nice suggestion but too much drama involved, so, I'll knock Bank of Baroda's door for RuPay Select debit card by upgrading account variant from Advantage Savings Account (2k MAB) to Super Savings Account (20k MAB) / Professional Savings Account (25k MAB)System level check has been introduced now, cards can only be issued against schemes as mentioned. Union Bank of India does offer the lowest fee RuPay Select DC but needs at least 1 lac QAB and after that the lowest fee RuPay Select DC is currently offered by Bank of Baroda only 😬
