TL;DR - Don't bother watching it in the theatre. It is too film-festival type and made for a very small section of audiences. If you like movies like Photograph, 8 AM Metro, Three Of Us then you may consider watching this. Otherwise, it isn't worth the risk.
Long Review -
The movie isn't bad at all. It is more like a slice-of-life film with no proper start and end to the movie. The movie has some French co-producers which shows in the way the movie is shot and the use of silence. I just liked the movie but that may have to do more with the fact that I am a Mumbaikar and the movie covers Mumbai in a unique way. I don't understand a word of Malayalam but I relied on the subtitles. The movie though has a lot of Hindi, some Marathi, some Gujarati and some Bengali too - typical of life in Mumbai.
The movie is also very realistic throughout except for a brief portion towards its end where an encounter with someone from the past is totally inexplicable. The 3 ladies deliver a fine performance especially Kani Kusruti who plays the head nurse Prabha. Her eyes do a lot of talking. Chhaya Kadam is typecast as the hospital cook but probably has the meatiest role she's ever had. Divya Prabhu as the trainee nurse is pretty good too.
Also, I watched Laapata Ladies and absolutely loved it compared to this one. So despite all the Cannes fanfare for this movie, I am totally glad it wasn't India's entry for the Oscars (not that it really matters). P.S. - The movie is A-rated and I do not recommend watching it with parents or kids.
