Unpaid Movie Review - Sookshmadarshini (Malayalam)

TL;DR - This is a must watch if you can watch a movie with subtitles. Not since Drishyam have I seen a movie with such tightly woven suspense that you cannot possibly predict right until the end. What's even more admirable is that the movie also has a comical line running parallel throughout the movie. It does not dilute the suspense at all.

Long Review -
Sookshmadarshini means a microscope in Malayalam and once you finish the movie you'll realize that it is an apt title. I don't understand a word of Malayalam but luckily movies from the South seem to release with subtitles in Mumbai.

The movie almost entirely revolves around the two mains characters - Priya (Nazriya Nazim) who has a very Sherlock-like nature and Manuel (Basil Joseph) who is her new neighbour and gives enough reasons to her to suspect something fishy. Both deliver outstanding performances. There's plenty of support cast as well involving Priya's family, her female neighbourhood gang and Manuel's family as well. As with a good suspense movie, it is best not to reveal much to avoid any spoilers. Watch the trailer if you want more. The trailer is spoiler-safe.

The movie is nearly 2.5 hrs long and until you are past the 2 hrs mark you still keep guessing what's being hidden and why. You are almost guaranteed to come to a wrong conclusion. In the last 30 mins one suspense after another starts unravelling. Some are hinted before in the movie; some aren't. That's what makes it really enjoyable. 

Fans of the Breaking Bad series may also notice a hat tribute (whether intentional or otherwise) in the movie.
