Apple’s latest software updates are here with the official release of iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4. Both updates carry significant kernel and WebKit vulnerability fixes so it’s best to install them on your devices as soon as possible.

According to a security document shared by Apple, an unnamed malicious app could gain elevated privileges and serve as a gateway for exploits. The WebKit issues allowed remote attackers to execute harmful code on your device. Apple is doing an ongoing investigation of the matter and assures the exploits were patched with the new updates.

……….

The new iOS version is available on iPhone 6s and up as well as iPod touch (7 gen) while iPadOS will be compatible with iPad Air 2 / iPad mini 4 and up. Other new additions include the ability to scan smaller QR codes and the option to classify Bluetooth devices in Settings which helps collect Headphone Audio Level measurements on third party devices.

…………….

Update iOS and iPadOS to version 14.4 immediately

Apple has released a security update to close three zero-day vulnerabilities: CVE-2021-1780, CVE-2021-1781, and CVE-2021-1782. Because Apple believes unnamed cybercriminals are already exploiting those vulnerabilities, the company advises all iOS and iPadOS users to update their operating systems.

* If your device is older and does not support version 14.4 of iOS or iPadOS, install another browser as an alternative to Safari, and set it as the default browser. For example, starting with iOS 11, you can use Firefox or DuckDuckGo, and starting with iOS 12, you can also opt for Google Chrome. *

Vulnerabilities are part of any modern operating system or any software for that matter.

This proves that the claim Apple users make that iOS is more secure and less vulnerable is a myth.

But you have to agree that the Speed at which Apple can patch bugs and rollout an iOS ota update for all the affected devices is lot faster than Android can do… Because of huge variety of hardware and Android ROM customised for each of them from hundreds of brands…  all using the same Android version.

This is a 7-8 year old phone, can CRApple do anything shown in this video?

P.S. Now loads more things can be done in an Android phone. These controllers can be connected wirelessly, thousands of emulators and what not. Plus you can customize it to the core.

And yes SHITpple is good, in taking out that money from a user’s pocket.

About security it all depends upon the user bro. I have seen people installing 2 av’s in a phone in the name of security.

That’s how Apple  became the most profitable business, having huge profit margins.

And it’s the most anti-repair,  anti competition phone maker but because people treat iphones like an asset or status symbol rather than a useful electronic device Apple can get away with Massive price tags.

But when it comes to Software support like  new is updates and security patches to older device it’s better than any  Android phone ( maybe other than Google’s own Pixels )

Give me one Android example of a 2015  launched phone still getting OS update/ security patches

Fairphone 2 (amongst a very, very few others as claimed by FP itself).
And devices running custom ROMs. But you already knew that.

What are the common vulnerabilities?

Possibly good news for Jailbreaking.
I hoping the KindleDrip vulnerability allows software jailbreak for more Kindle eReader. A locked device is no fun.

End of the discussion. Please try to understand the difference between an asset and an expense.

Just last week my friend installed the one ui 3 with android 11 in his phone. There are ways bro. Good luck if you keep on relying on the patches/updates.

It’s good to know fair phone 2 got an android 9 update last year. But you have to agree that it’s a very very niche product. Currently most new devices are on  Android 10

Custom ROMs are honestly one of the biggest advantages of android. But that again depends on  popularity of your device among those who develop custom ROMs. And there’s certain technical knowledge ( as well as a very small risk) involved in flashing custom ROMs.

So not every tries ROMs

So an official update can’t  ever be compared with customer ROMs

When the support period for Apple devices ends the apps can longer be updated whereas Android devices receive app updates for nearly forever. Only recently some apps have dropped support for Android 4.x for ex. Updated apps running in an unpatched OS!
And ofc for the price of one Apple device one can buy a new mid-ranger say every 2 years and enjoy the same 5-6 years of support.
Leaving all that aside iOS is just too restrictive.

That’s the thing android would stop support after two or three years. Then you’re on your own to rely available custom ROMs. If you have a popular device like Samsung, Redmi, OnePlus etc then you might be lucky enough to get a good ROM. But if you have Something like Micromax you might not.

My point is that Custom ROMs are not official update. And you are always on the mercy of Dev community for bug fixes and patches

Good point. It’s not entirely true. But it is part of Apple’s planned obsolescence strategy. And top Android phone makers are following Apple’s footsteps unfortunately.

But there are many apps still work on older iOS perfectly fine with latest updates though the numbers are lot less than Android apps latest version for Older Android

If given a chance then I would never update my iOS ever. With every update the battery starts getting degraded faster and the battery life drastically reduces compared to what was before the update. Apple even had a lawsuit file against them for the same issue but still they keep doing this scam with every update. They will make your phone so sick with every update that you will be forced to get a new iPhone to overcome this sickness. Worst part of owning an iPhone.

You have to read or watch experience of others users if that happens to them or not. Though this can vary depending on device model and iOS version.

I’ve heard iOS 14 has infact increase battery life a bit especially standby time for older generation iPhones like SE ,6S, 7 so on.

I think Apple has learnt it’s Lesson. And every lithium ion battery degrades over time ( even if you don’t use it) and with every charge cycle ( time you charge and deplete the battery) So replacing the battery after 2-3 years of (or 80% of remaining battery health) use is strongly recommended
