Inspired by this thread here https://www.desidime.com/discussions/someone-se... I'm creating this thread to know and discuss more about the UPI Chargeback Fraud thing / issue so we can stay alert in future and don't fall for this kind of fraud. 1. Max period for claiming of chargeback by the sender ? 2. What if the sender calls the receiver after mistakenly / intentionally transferring amount , the receiver sends the amount back and then the sender raises chargeback ? 3. As per the reference thread it's not a good idea to send back money ( out of decency ) received by UPI even if the sender mistakenly sends it you ? How to handle such case then ? 4. What if you sell something on olx / quickr etc. websites, receive the amount in your personal savings AC through UPI and then the buyer claims / files chargeback ? What will banks do ? Anyone who have experience in this please share your experience or anything you know on this UPI Chargeback thing. BTW, as for my experience once received 2k on my mom's bank account, the sender someone from Bengaluru called me, I checked her account and sent the amount immediately.

What you mean by UPI Chargeback Fraud ? smile Filing a chargeback everytime is not an easy task. Bank may disabled UPI service from your bank account, if you claim for UPI Chargeback everytime. grinning *1)* Max period for claiming of chargeback is 90 days and then you can go to court. *2)* Bank will hold your money and the bank will call you and told you someone has sent the wrong money transfer to your account, You have to allow the bank to return the money. *3)* Ya, it’s not a good idea to send back money received by UPI even if the sender mistakenly sends it you. If sender call you and ask you to return the money, you simply told him/her to file a chargeback from his/her bank. *4)* When bank will call you, you simply refuse to return the money. Now bank will told the buyer to register a FIR against you and same bank will also told you to register a FIR against the buyer under section 420 (If any lawyer here in desidime then he/she will better explain under which section you have to register a FIR against the buyer, If he files a false UPI chargeback).

after reading the chargeback fraud thing won’t accept payments from anyone through UPI .. it’s not scary but can be harassing experience for sure.

I think IMPS is the only solution for accepting payments which is relatively safer.

You still dnt understand, filing a chargeback is not an easy task. No one will apply for false UPI chargeback. smile

UPI, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, Card all chargeback process are same.

Bank also ask you to mentioned original UPI ID, whom you want to send.

Anyways, its our Indian culture. who are always afraid to try new things. grinning

It takes time to adopt new things from generation to generation in our Indian culture.
If you don’t, your kids will definitely do. Now its upto you. You want to hear this from your child “Just ignore my dad, he is old fashion. he will never understand, lets do UPI or you want your child to see in the future what a cool dad you are.” smile

First of all you have to stop saying “chargeback fraud” because nobody files wrong UPI chargeback. It’s just in your mind. smile

Reading some comments on the thread mentioned on the OP made me think about UPI differently otherwise I’m not some one from those group for whom old is always gold … change for the good is always a welcome thing.

Damn this reminds me to raise a chargeback against a fraud/lowlife server owner to whom I paid 300 back in Sep. for admin access but never got that. Anyone has idea how to file a chargeback through Bank of Baroda website? That website loses me every time I visit it.

If you file a chargeback against a fraud transaction then bank may ask you to submit a FIR copy.

Is there no way except FIR? Didnt wanted to get indulged in police stuff, had lost around 12k in a deal over telegram 3 days back via upi? By any chance can I claim a chargeback on it?

Ya, you can try.

one guy got his fraud transaction money after complaint to RBI & bank but you will get your money back after 6 to 8 months.
