A nice painting if you can find one in your budget 
People generally have most of the storage/cutlery/etc items in the house.. or they just stack it up in the cupboard when you gift them.
Items like a painting will get used – if they appreciate such stuff.. if they are religious, you can plan for some paintings of their preferred god etc..
